{"id":2569,"date":"2014-01-14T14:35:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-14T18:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=2569"},"modified":"2014-01-14T14:35:00","modified_gmt":"2014-01-14T18:35:00","slug":"sig-introduces-the-p320","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/sig-introduces-the-p320\/","title":{"rendered":"SIG INTRODUCES THE P320"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last summer, I got to sit down with SIG-SAUER CEO Ron Cohen and the engineers, and got to play with a prototype of their new striker-fired pistol.\u00a0 I promised them I wouldn\u2019t discuss it in public until they announced it at the SHOT Show this week.\u00a0 Some in the business didn\u2019t hold to that agreement.\u00a0 I did.<\/p>\n<p>And, it has now been announced:<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"450\" height=\"253\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/jeQjYrgwz84?hl=en_US&amp;version=3&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"450\" height=\"253\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/jeQjYrgwz84?hl=en_US&amp;version=3&amp;rel=0\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><br \/>\nThis is the first striker-fired SIG pistol, and is of course designed to compete with the hugely successful Glock and Smith &amp; Wesson Military &amp; Police semiautomatics.\u00a0 It\u2019s built on the chassis of SIG\u2019s familiar P250, and in fact the prototype we photographed six months ago is actually marked P250.<\/p>\n<p>The P250 had growing pains, particularly in the area of the trigger bar.\u00a0 It had one of the smoothest double action only trigger pulls in the semiautomatic pistol industry and still does, but today\u2019s market seems to want shorter trigger strokes, which the P320 certainly delivers.\u00a0 The widely copied Glock trigger safety \u2013 which SIG calls a \u201ctabbed\u201d trigger \u2013 will be only an option on the P320, since some folks don\u2019t care for that design.\u00a0 The P320 will share the P250\u2019s modular design, allowing quick changes of grip length and configuration, slide and barrel length, and caliber.\u00a0 Now, going back to the Dan Wesson revolver of decades ago, it turns out that quick-change barrels are not a big draw for American police and handgunners, but the feature is there for those who want it.<\/p>\n<p>The early bugs seem to have been worked out of the P250 design\u2026I liked what I saw of the P320 prototype in New Hampshire\u2026and the P320 is going to be a handgun to keep an eye on.\u00a0 Congratulations to Ethan Lessard, SIG\u2019s in-house genius who led the P320 design team.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ethan Lessard, left, fills Mas in on new suppressors, the just-announced P320, and other matters SIG, August 2013, Exeter NH.
