{"id":2945,"date":"2014-11-14T20:53:22","date_gmt":"2014-11-15T00:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=2945"},"modified":"2014-11-14T20:53:22","modified_gmt":"2014-11-15T00:53:22","slug":"seasons-end-seasons-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/seasons-end-seasons-begin\/","title":{"rendered":"SEASONS END, SEASONS BEGIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the first weekend of November, I shot my last major \u201crun-and-gun\u201d match of the year, the Citrus Challenge IDPA tournament (www.idpa.com) mentioned earlier in this blog.\u00a0 This past weekend, I shot what I expect to be my last major \u201cstand in one place and shoot the damn gun\u201d match, a Glock Sport Shooting Foundation (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gssfonline.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.gssfonline.com<\/a>) event in St. Augustine, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Had a great time at both, learned lessons at both.\u00a0\u00a0 At Citrus Challenge, it was reinforced for me that when you get old, the \u201crunning\u201d slows down before the \u201cgunning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At St. Augustine, I was reminded \u2013 not for the first time this year, or ever \u2013 that if you want to perform well at a tournament, you really ought to train for it.\u00a0 Entered in five \u201cgun categories\u201d at the Glock Shoot, each of which consists of three shooting stages, I shot my average on the cardboard targets but was sloppy and off-pace on the steel plate stage.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t shot the \u201cBianchi Plates\u201d all year except at four matches, and it showed.\u00a0 Pace is particularly critical on reaction targets.\u00a0 I had come back from a deposition in a fatal shooting case on the opposite coast barely in time to get caught up on work mail, and put the guns into the car before the match.<\/p>\n<p>Another lesson: my job requires me to do <em>some <\/em>shooting almost every week, and that at least keeps you consistent.\u00a0 In this case, the consistent performance gave me a \u201cgentleman\u2019s C\u201d overall grade that kept me from having to go into therapy or anything, but also showed that consistency can be the key to mediocrity.<\/p>\n<p>On the plus side, my Significant Other is on a roll.\u00a0 The preliminary results show that she was high female in the Civilian event.<\/p>\n<p>My final lesson: I should model on Frank Butler. He was the 19<sup>th<\/sup> Century marksman who challenged Annie Oakley to a shooting match.
