{"id":3695,"date":"2016-04-28T20:06:30","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T00:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=3695"},"modified":"2016-04-28T20:06:30","modified_gmt":"2016-04-29T00:06:30","slug":"welldarn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/welldarn\/","title":{"rendered":"WELL\u2026DARN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today brought<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foliomag.com\/2016\/harris-publications-is-shutting-down\/\" target=\"_blank\"> sad news from the print magazine world.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For many, many years I wrote the \u201cSelf-Defense and the Law\u201d column for Harris\u2019 <em>Combat Handguns <\/em>magazine, and the occasional feature article. I wrote the \u201cOff-Duty\u201d column and, until now, the \u201cFirst Responder\u201d column for their <em>Guns &amp; Weapons for Law Enforcement<\/em>.\u00a0 From the early 1990s \u2018til a couple of years ago I also wrote their annual <em>Complete Book of Handguns. <\/em>(Yes, semanticists out there, I know that every year\u2019s edition was completely different from the previous, but I inherited the \u201cComplete Book\u201d title.)<\/p>\n<p>I also found it amusing that Harris\u2019 music magazine, <em>Revolver, <\/em>was always placed in the gun magazine section instead of the music section of the racks at my local WalMart.<\/p>\n<p>For nearly 40 years, the Harris gun magazines put a lot of great material out there.\u00a0 The changing paradigms of electronic vis-\u00e0-vis dead tree media are no secret.\u00a0 I\u2019m glad that <em>Backwoods Home <\/em>is still surviving quite well. Three print gun magazines I write for, <em>Guns<\/em> and <em>American Handgunner<\/em> on the newsstands and the professional journal <em>Shooting Industry, <\/em>all seem to be flourishing despite the rise of the electronic media.<\/p>\n<p>My heart goes out to the many good people in New York who worked so hard and so long, full-time, for the Harris titles.\u00a0 They were always professional, and I wish them luck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today brought sad news from the print magazine world.
