It\u2019s on the stands now, in the July\/August issue of <em>American Handgunner <\/em>magazine, under the continuing \u201cAyoob Files\u201d feature..<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>I mentioned that I was teaching in Harrisburg when the <em>Heller <\/em>decision was announced, and <strong>Jason the Saj <\/strong>commented that he\u2019s from that area, and he was sorry he missed it. No sweat, Jason, we\u2019ll be doing it there again next year. I\u2019ve also noted here already, as did several who commented, that their 9mm carbine is particularly nice.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I can also tell you that, according to dealers I\u2019ve talked to, Hi-Point customer service is second to none.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>When I sent in a dispatch from the Midwestern floods, <strong>Brogan <\/strong>was concerned about cops entering homes without warrants under those circumstances. He saw it as \u201c\u2026another Katrina wrapped in a different package.\u201d I hear where you\u2019re coming from, Brogan, but I have to say I didn\u2019t see any trampling of rights here.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In life-threatening disasters, emergency service workers \u2013 including police \u2013 have not only the right but the duty to check apparently abandoned dwellings to make sure there are no injured or infirm people inside who need to be rescued. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Lots of folks shared their personal thoughts on \u201cgrail guns,\u201d and every one mentioned was a fine and desirable firearm.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I only saw one I could help with: <strong>Heavyduty <\/strong>wrote that he\u2019d love to own a round-butt, four-inch barrel specimen of the Model 681, Smith &amp; Wesson\u2019s fixed sight<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>L-frame (.41-frame) .357 Magnum in stainless. Almost all those revolvers were produced with square butts. There\u2019s hope, though: attached is a photo of one of my 686s, the more common adjustable sight version of the same fine revolver. This one had its grip-frame reconfigured to the round butt shape by ace gunsmith Bob Lloyd. I can\u2019t find Bob\u2019s address, but there are lots of good Smith \u2018smiths who can do the same job on the still available (if increasingly hard to find) square butt Model 681. Some 686s in the 4\u201d\/round butt configuration were also produced by S&amp;W for US Customs, and surface occasionally on the collectors\u2019 market.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And finally, darn it, the bobcat never did come back.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Wingdings; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ascii-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-hansi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"><span style=\"mso-char-type: symbol; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;\">L<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\"><strong>4\u201d S&amp;W 686 rebuilt to round butt configuration (grips are Hogue) by ace gunsmith Bob Lloyd, who also trimmed the cylinder latch, bobbed the hammer, and did an outstanding action job.
