The grail, of course, is something uncommon that they desperately want to own.<\/p>\n<p>My significant other is the Evil Princess of Podcasts, Pixels, and Polymer Pistols. She bonded with the Glock very early in her shooting career.\u00a0 Her collection includes this 1911 and that engraved Smith &amp; Wesson, but her daily carry tends toward drastic plastic.\u00a0 She\u2019ll admit to a long-going fling on the side with the Springfield Armory XD(m) series, but most often, both her daily holster and her competition holster will carry one or another Glock.\u00a0 Over at glocktalk.com her handle is Glock Girl Gail, and she is not only a certified Glock Armorer but has been to the Mother Ship in Smyrna, Georgia and been certified as an Advanced Armorer with this pre-eminent polymer pistol.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4189\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4189\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Glock19RTF2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4189\" src=\"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Glock19RTF2-300x277.jpg\" alt=\"Glock 19 RTF2\" width=\"250\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Glock19RTF2-300x277.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Glock19RTF2-768x709.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Glock19RTF2-1024x945.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Glock19RTF2.jpg 1300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4189\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cIn the jungle, the mighty jungle, the grail gun sleeps tonight.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She tested the Glock RTF2 pistols along with me when they first came out a few years ago. The RTF stood for <strong>R<\/strong>ough <strong>T<\/strong>extured <strong>F<\/strong>inish, with little studs they called \u201cpolymids\u201d all over the grip to give a more solid hold in slippery hands.\u00a0 The RTF2 treatment also included gill-shaped slide grasping grooves.\u00a0 Her reaction at first was \u201cho-hum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As soon as they discontinued the RTF2 (police departments complained that the rough texture on the grips was chewing up uniforms) she discovered an RTF2 Glock 17, the standard size 9mm, in our hangout, the ProArms Gun Shop.\u00a0 She fell in love with it and so I bought it.\u00a0 It became her favorite match gun. Partial to the slightly smaller Glock 19 in the same 9mm chambering for daily carry, she started looking for those in RTF2 format.<\/p>\n<p>They were scarce as the proverbial hen\u2019s teeth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy didn\u2019t you develop your fixation when we could still get the damn things,\u201d I moaned. \u201cI prefer 9mm,\u201d she said with the logic that helps women live seven years longer than men, \u201cand\u00a0 the ones you tested were .40s and .45s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thus began the quest.\u00a0 We found the same configuration pistol in .40 caliber, an RTF2 Glock 23, and I bought it for her.\u00a0 \u201cWe can convert it to 9mm easy,\u201d I said.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s still not going to be a <em>Glock 19 <\/em>RTF2,\u201d she replied adamantly, looking at me as if I had suggested solar powered night sights.\u00a0 The quest continued.<\/p>\n<p>Glock reintroduced a Larry Vickers Signature Model Glock 19 RTF2. \u201cLet me get you one of those,\u201d I pleaded. \u201cNo,\u201d she replied with finality. \u201cIt has the RTF2 grip, but not the gills.\u00a0 I gotta have gills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And so it went, until a new Best Friend Forever found her a near-mint condition Glock 19 RTF2 earlier this month.\u00a0 My hand went for my credit card as if it was a fast draw contest.<\/p>\n<p>Life is better now. Thanks again, Bob!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s how collectors are.\u00a0 \u201cThis Winchester \u201994 is almost perfect <em>but <\/em>it doesn\u2019t have the saddle ring.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cNo, this Smith &amp; Wesson Model 27 with 4\u201d barrel <em>isn\u2019t <\/em>the same as the one I want with 3 \u00bd\u201d barrel.\u201d\u00a0 (My own last gun grail, an itch now scratched twice over.)<\/p>\n<p>How about y\u2019all?\u00a0 What grail guns are <em>you <\/em>still searching for to make your collection complete?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Few things move my cynical old soul to poetry, but when a collector finds a grail, it\u2019s something to celebrate.
