{"id":4850,"date":"2018-02-16T20:31:08","date_gmt":"2018-02-17T01:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=4850"},"modified":"2018-02-16T20:31:08","modified_gmt":"2018-02-17T01:31:08","slug":"when-atrocity-meets-naivete-political-identity-blindness-wishful-thinking-and-lies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/when-atrocity-meets-naivete-political-identity-blindness-wishful-thinking-and-lies\/","title":{"rendered":"WHEN ATROCITY MEETS NAIVETE, POLITICAL IDENTITY BLINDNESS, WISHFUL THINKING, AND LIES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A mad dog runs loose and murders seventeen helpless victims in a high school in Florida.\u00a0 Helpless onlookers all over the world cry, \u201cWe have to do <em>something!<\/em>\u201d\u00a0 And, as always, that turns into \u201cWe have to blame <em>someone!\u201d <\/em>And <em>voila, <\/em>the now inevitable wave of twits on Twitter calling the NRA a terrorist organization and, by natural extension, all its members terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>Simply banning and confiscating AR15 rifles and other guns with magazines of significant cartridge capacity is the demand once again.\u00a0 Let\u2019s see, fifteen million guns to be confiscated (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/america-s-rifle-why-so-many-people-love-ar-15-n831171\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/america-s-rifle-why-so-many-people-love-ar-15-n831171<\/a>).\u00a0 The cheapest for which one can be bought is about $700.\u00a0 That\u2019s $10.5 <em>billion <\/em>in compensation that would be due to their legitimate owners\u2026and it grossly understates the cost, because so many AR15s carry four-figure price tags.\u00a0 (Hey, gun control rabble-rousers \u2013 you weren\u2019t planning on confiscating property legally purchased and responsibly owned by American citizens <em>without <\/em>compensation\u2026<em>were<\/em> you?)<\/p>\n<p>And where will the funding come from to send our nation\u2019s 800,000 law enforcement officers to more than a hundred million homes to find and confiscate these guns?\u00a0 And what tragedy and bloodshed and shattering of rights might arise from <em>that? <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The morning after this atrocity, we were tuned to CNN.\u00a0 For more than an hour they discussed this incident non-stop, as if there was no other news in the world\u2026and were absolutely tone-deaf to their own hopefully unintentional complicity in motivating the next monster. They implicitly told every thwarted loser in the country that they could get instant 24\/7 fame and attention, and all they had to do for it was murder some helpless schoolkids.\u00a0 See:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/trending\/5-things-terrible-media-communicates-every-potential-school-shooter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/trending\/5-things-terrible-media-communicates-every-potential-school-shooter\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When Emotion collides with Logic, Emotion resorts to lies.\u00a0 Read this expose of the grotesque exaggeration as to the frequency and casualty count in \u201cschool shootings\u201d recently put forth by the now-dominant anti-gun group, \u201cEverytown,\u201d financed as a pet project of billionaire Michael Bloomberg: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/america-s-rifle-why-so-many-people-love-ar-15-n831171\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/america-s-rifle-why-so-many-people-love-ar-15-n831171<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But none of the antis will compromise their precious political identity by supporting something that could actually work to deter or at least greatly mitigate things like this: arming selected, trained volunteer school personnel so someone there on the ground can interdict a mass murderer in time, as soon as he reveals himself as such.\u00a0 Some wise legislators in Alabama have already taken that approach in the wake of the Florida atrocity. <a href=\"http:\/\/whnt.com\/2018\/02\/15\/alabama-lawmaker-to-propose-bill-allowing-teachers-to-carry-guns-at-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/whnt.com\/2018\/02\/15\/alabama-lawmaker-to-propose-bill-allowing-teachers-to-carry-guns-at-school\/<\/a>.\u00a0 Good for them!<\/p>\n<p>Too bad something like that didn\u2019t come in time for Aaron Feis, the courageous assistant football coach and UNARMED school security guard who was killed in the massacre. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/parkland-school-shooting-hero-football-coach-aaron-feis-died-shielding-n848311\">https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/parkland-school-shooting-hero-football-coach-aaron-feis-died-shielding-n848311<\/a>).\u00a0 Per Elizabeth Chuck, Associated Press, and NBC News:\u201cThe death toll, witnesses said, would have been even higher had it not been for Feis.
