This year\u2019s National Rifle Association Annual Meeting wrapped up with a record attendance of over 87,000 men, women, and children.\u00a0 Reportedly, after several years steady at five million members, NRA has recently soared to something like six million, due no doubt to the virulent wave of anti-gun and anti-gun-owner hatred ginned up by the prohibitionists in the wake of the atrocity in Parkland, Florida.<\/p>\n
Many eyebrows were raised on both sides of the gun controversy when at the end of the meeting it was announced that Oliver North is the new president of NRA.\u00a0 Some mouth-foaming on the part of the gun-banners was naturally expected.\u00a0 However, a number of pro-gun voices have questioned the choice of a man seen as well to starboard politically at a time when, more than ever, the association needs to appeal to Americans in the middle of the political road. Some are describing North as a \u201cconvicted felon,\u201d conveniently ignoring the fact that his convictions were subsequently vacated by a court of appeals.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t much worry what the other side thinks of Col. North.\u00a0 2A advocate Miguel Gonzales pointedly observed, \u201d(No matter who we elect, he or she is going to be vilified and us alongside. We can elect Jesus Christ himself to be President of the NRA and the Democrats and the Media will hate him and accuse him of trying to overthrow the Roman Empire, subvert Judaism, make wine without a license and distribute suspicious fish and baked goods.\u201d (More of Miggy\u2019s commentary can be found at www.gunfreezone.net<\/a> .)<\/p>\n Col. North is a retired Marine, very much on top of things, and an articulate man who speaks his mind.\u00a0 I say give him a chance.
