{"id":5069,"date":"2018-08-23T21:42:47","date_gmt":"2018-08-24T01:42:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=5069"},"modified":"2018-08-23T21:42:47","modified_gmt":"2018-08-24T01:42:47","slug":"going-retro-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/going-retro-again\/","title":{"rendered":"GOING RETRO AGAIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No, the title above does not come from the Department of Redundancy Department.\u00a0 It comes from the fact that every now and then, the old guy here goes back into the past with old technology.\u00a0 Each time I do that, I\u2019m reminded that old doesn\u2019t necessarily mean obsolete.<\/p>\n<p>Last year about this time,\u00a0 I spent four weeks using double action revolvers for teaching classes, even though I knew most of my students would be using semiautomatic pistols.\u00a0 Reason was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/going-retro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explained here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It worked out reasonably well. The two points I dropped on one Pace-Setter (demonstration of a qualification shoot) was on me and not the six-shooter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/retro-month-a-mid-month-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as noted here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>August 2017 finished my retro month successfully, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/retro-month-in-retrospect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as noted here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017 I had done my \u201cretro month\u201d with a pair of K-frame (medium frame) 4\u201d barrel Smith &amp; Wesson Model 19 .357 Combat Magnums, both blue steel.\u00a0 This year being even hotter and more humid, I stayed with K-frame S&amp;Ws but went stainless.\u00a0 One gun was the Model 64, a fixed sight .38 Special with 4\u201d barrel; the other was a Model 66 .357 Magnum in an uncommon and uncatalogued format, 3\u201d barrel with round butt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SW02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5071\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SW02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SW02.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SW02-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SW02-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/SW02-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I used the Model 64 for the Connecticut class, hosted by my old friend and master instructor Frank Cornwall at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defenseassociates.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Defense Associates<\/a>, because as I had done the year before I chose to shoot the demo left-handed even though I\u2019m not a natural southpaw.
