Air guns,\nthat is.  In most jurisdictions there\u2019s\nlittle if any hassle in buying and transferring, nor worry about \u201cstraw man\u201d\npurchase accusations.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An air rifle\nor air pistol can be shot in the basement without polluting the air in the\nhouse.  It can be shot in the living\nroom.  Purpose-designed bullet traps are\navailable, and you can make one out of one of the many big cardboard boxes\nlikely to be left over from Christmas morning, and some judiciously placed\nheavy carpet scraps.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Significant\nother and I have been playing of late with a most realistic, Glock-approved\nGlock 19 clone from Umarex, a giant in the air gun field, and having a ball\nwith it.  It has a fifteen-shot magazine,\njust like the real 9mm G19, and of course fits the same holster for drawing\npractice. I think my sweetie, the Evil Princess of Podcasts, Pixels, and\nPolymer Pistols, is enjoying it even more than I; a Glock 19 was her first\ncenterfire handgun, and she used it to win her first prize gun, a Glock\n34.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Works as\nadvertised, and utterly reliable thus far. \nAccuracy? The group shown was fired at seven yards; not what you\u2019d want\nfor the Air Pistol Olympics, but good enough for practice and fun.  It creeped her out a bit pulling a trigger\nwithout earmuffs; girl is used to gunpowder. \nWe discovered that on a rainy day, we could stand in the shelter of the\nporch and plink tin cans on the pool deck across the way with BBs, and stay\ntotally dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My only complaint with it is that the trigger pull \u2013 which isn\u2019t actually bad \u2013<\/em> isn\u2019t quite like a realGlock<\/g>.  Instead of the true Glock\u2019stwo-stage pull (light take-up, then a wall of resistance and the final shortroll<\/g> to the shot), the Umarex G19 has more like three or four stages. At aboutthe<\/g> point where the shot would break with your real Glock, there\u2019s an audibleand<\/g> palpable \u201ctick,\u201d and then one more stage of press and \u201cbang.\u201d Uh, I mean,\u201c<\/g>poof.\u201d  It\u2019s less noticeable in rapidfire<\/g>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Umarex is\ncurrently listing it on their website at $74, which we think is a steal; about\na hundred bucks less than their Airsoft version.  Shooting BBs is cheap, and so is the gun. We\nliked its realistic heft and overall quality. \nIf they don\u2019t have them at your local gun shop or sporting goods store,\ngo to the Umarex website at www.umarexusa.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And remember\nwhat Santa told Ralphie in \u201cA Christmas Story.\u201d You don\u2019t need ear protection\nwith a BB gun, but you sure do need your eye pro on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
