{"id":5317,"date":"2019-01-04T12:09:05","date_gmt":"2019-01-04T17:09:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=5317"},"modified":"2019-01-04T17:42:47","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T22:42:47","slug":"the-new-jersey-magazine-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/the-new-jersey-magazine-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"THE NEW JERSEY MAGAZINE BAN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Reacting largely to a pair of atrocities, the massacres in Las Vegas and at the Parkland school, the New Jersey legislature recently passed a law forbidding possession of firearm magazines capable of holding more than ten cartridges.\u00a0 For many years prior, New Jersey\u2019s magazine limit had been fifteen rounds for private citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its original iteration, the law applied to New Jersey\u2019s own cops, and if they carried their service pistols off duty (as many do), they would theoretically have had to arrest each other on their way home from work. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Bernard Kerik, former Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, angrily pointed out (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2018\/12\/15\/former-nyc-police-commissioner-njs-high-capacity-magazine-ban-endangers-officers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bernard Kerik, former Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, angrily pointed out<\/a> that felons would of course ignore this additional felony and keep using higher capacity magazines, and only the good guys and gals would be handicapped with less ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawmakers quickly revised the law, supposedly to exempt cops, but the wording may not succeed in that goal.&nbsp; No one is more familiar with New Jersey gun laws than attorney Evan Nappen, a warrior for gun owners\u2019 civil rights, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.evannappen.com\/cop-murphy-mag-fix-fail.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"who discusses the imperfections here. (opens in a new tab)\">.<\/a><\/g><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What Kerik\nneglected to mention is that off-duty cops aren\u2019t the only armed good guys and\ngals in New Jersey. COMMON SENSE ALERT: Anyone with even a high two-digit IQ\nshould be able to figure out that local law enforcement has the best handle on\nlocal criminals and how to protect us all from them.&nbsp; If law enforcement has determined that\npistols with high capacity magazines are the best things to issue to protect\nthe law-abiding citizens from violent criminals, it follows logically that pistols\nwith high capacity magazines might just be the best tools for those law-abiding\ncitizens to use to protect <em>themselves <\/em>from\nviolent criminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/report-new-jerseys-large-capacity-magazine-ban-isnt-going-well\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Early reports indicate<\/a> MASSIVE non-compliance, as of 12-31-18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This latest\nNew Jersey folly will turn countless thousands of law-abiding New Jersey\ncitizens into felons.&nbsp; Early indications\nare that compliance will be somewhere between slim and none.&nbsp; We are witnessing yet another sad triumph of\nsymbolism over substance.&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reacting largely to a pair of atrocities, the massacres in Las Vegas and at the Parkland school, the New Jersey legislature recently passed a law forbidding possession of firearm magazines capable of holding more than ten cartridges.\u00a0 For many years prior, New Jersey\u2019s magazine limit had been fifteen rounds for private citizens.
