WMLs (weapon-mounted\nlights) have also become hugely popular for home defense. There are even\nitty-bitty ones for small concealed carry handguns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember seeing an early 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century version, a Colt Police Positive .38 revolver with a crude flashlight built on.\u00a0 That, it turns out, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefirearmblog.com\/blog\/2018\/12\/28\/flintlock-pistol-with-tactical-oil-lamp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"was not the genesis of the concept (opens in a new tab)\">was not the genesis of the concept<\/a>:  .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That was a\nwonderful read. Also a bit chilling.&nbsp; Two\nhammers, two triggers.&nbsp; Pull one trigger\nto fire the lethal weapon.&nbsp; Pull the\nother trigger (in the dark, by definition) to light the attached lamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What could\ngo wrong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same\nreminder to readers that I give to students: consider the weapon-mounted light\nto be for emergencies, and use a separate hand-held light for searches unless\nthere is a very high-probability \u201cshoot\u201d target somewhere in front of you.&nbsp; The reason: in any sort of uncertain\nsituation, you\u2019re pointing a loaded gun at everything you look at.&nbsp; It\u2019s analogous to the slob hunter we all\ndespise who is too cheap or lazy to use binoculars, so he scans for game\nthrough the telescopic sight of his loaded rifle, the muzzle of which crosses\neverything else in the woods including maybe us and our little ones.&nbsp; Pointing loaded guns at people who don\u2019t\ndeserve it is known in the criminal justice system as \u201cfelony aggravated\nassault.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That doesn\u2019t\nmean \u201cDon\u2019t use WML firearms or scoped rifles.\u201d Quite the contrary. Winter tilts our northern hemisphere away from the sun and gives us more dark time, and cooler weather allows us to wear clothing that discreetly conceals bulkier handguns.\u00a0 My carry pistol <em>du jour <\/em>is a Gen5 Glock 19 9mm, mounting a SureFire light and loaded with sixteen rounds of Winchester Ranger-T +P ammo, which sends a 127 grain jacketed hollow point bullet out of the muzzle at 1250 feet per second, about the ballistics of the most street-proven .357 Magnum load from the two-inch barrel of a concealed carry revolver.\u00a0 The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Bravo Concealment (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bravoconcealment.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bravo Concealment<\/a> outside the belt scabbard it presently rests in conceals it very well with my January wardrobe, and if I need deeper concealment, I have an inside the waistband hybrid rig to fit it from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.concealmentsolutions.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Concealment Solutions (opens in a new tab)\">Concealment Solutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve come\na long way, baby!\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In case you haven\u2019t been looking, more American police seem to carry flashlight-mounted pistols in their duty holster in uniform, than not.
