{"id":5680,"date":"2019-02-27T13:20:50","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T18:20:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=5680"},"modified":"2019-02-27T13:23:19","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T18:23:19","slug":"the-dangers-of-universal-background-check-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/the-dangers-of-universal-background-check-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"THE DANGERS OF UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECK LEGISLATION"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Very <\/em>soon now, the House of\nRepresentatives will be considering a Universal Background Check bill that will\nhave profoundly negative consequences on law-abiding citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If private transfers\nare banned, you will not be able to loan your rifle or shotgun to a sibling,\nadult child, or friend to go hunting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suppose a\nfriend, relative, or neighbor known to you to be responsible and competent with\nfirearms but not owning one right now, suddenly becomes the victim of serious\nstalking and death threats. You won\u2019t be able to loan them a gun on an\nemergency basis, with which to defend themselves and their loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other\nside will claim, \u201cOh, you can just drive to the nearest FFL dealer and do the\npaperwork.\u201d&nbsp; No, you can\u2019t.&nbsp; They may be closed.&nbsp; And, down the road, other anti-gun\npoliticians may follow the Illinois legislation that requires onerous and\nredundant state firearms dealer licensing fees that are already driving small\ndealers out of business there. Dealers willing to do the transfer paperwork\nwill be hard to find.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A suicide\nprevention program spreading across the country, inspired by gun dealer Ralph\nDemicco and the New Hampshire Firearms Safety Coalition, encourages people to\nhold guns for friends and relatives until their period of depression passes. It\nhas already saved lives. The proposed legislation will make this impossible,\nand will inevitably cost lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You thought\nyou were just going to bequeath your valuable firearms to your heirs in your\nwill? This legislation may greatly complicate that, and make it significantly\nmore expensive\u2026all to no good end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The polls\nthat say a majority of Americans want UBCs seem to be based on questions like,\n\u201cDo you want crazy people and violent criminals to be able to buy guns at will,\nor not?\u201d&nbsp; The general public has not been\ngiven the first clue of how many ways this theoretically well-intended\nlegislation will criminalize countless law-abiding citizens.
