{"id":5822,"date":"2019-05-12T09:00:15","date_gmt":"2019-05-12T13:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=5822"},"modified":"2019-05-07T11:21:09","modified_gmt":"2019-05-07T15:21:09","slug":"more-good-guns-cheap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/more-good-guns-cheap\/","title":{"rendered":"MORE GOOD GUNS CHEAP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We live in a\ngolden age of quality firearms which, when adjusted for inflation, require\nproportionally less of our income to purchase than their predecessor models\ncost our parents and grandparents.&nbsp;\nOffered as evidence: the Springfield Armory\u2019s new Defender 9mm pistol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Debuting\nabout the time of the NRA show, upon which we have recently reported, this is\nthe Sub-Compact version of their XD series pistols, designed to compete with\nthe Glock.&nbsp; Originally designed in\nCroatia as the HS-2000 just before the turn of the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century,\nthey were quickly seized upon by Springfield Armory in Geneseo, Illinois and\nimported as Springfield\u2019s XD (eXtreme Duty).&nbsp;\nThe pistol in question has a short butt, and a double stack magazine\nholding thirteen torpedoes in the magazine with one more in the launch\ntube.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/XD9Compact.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/XD9Compact-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5825\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/XD9Compact-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/XD9Compact-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/XD9Compact.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It comes in\na cardboard box instead of a plastic carrying case, and has only one magazine\nsupplied.&nbsp; This allows them to tag it\nwith a manufacturer\u2019s suggested retail price of only $339, down from its normal\n$524 MSRP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve seen\ngun snobs turn their noses up at the XD, but I have to stand up for these neat\nlittle guns.&nbsp; They have good ergonomics:\nan easy trigger reach, ambidextrous magazine release, and enough accuracy that\nthey\u2019ve won national championships in IDPA and at the Bianchi Cup.&nbsp; In my circle, we\u2019ve been shooting them for\nmany years.&nbsp; My friend John Strayer has\nwon many matches with his, and he estimates that he has 30,000 rounds through\njust one of his competition XDs, with no malfunctions except when using handloads\nso light they wouldn\u2019t cycle any other autoloading pistol either.&nbsp; I\u2019ve trusted various XDs as carry guns and\nhome defense pistols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funny story:\nat one of my last times shooting the IDPA National Championships (in Tulsa that\nyear, if memory serves) another shooter came up to me and asked if it was true\nthat I\u2019d said XD pistols were junk.&nbsp;
