{"id":5840,"date":"2019-05-23T09:00:47","date_gmt":"2019-05-23T13:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=5840"},"modified":"2019-05-20T17:25:18","modified_gmt":"2019-05-20T21:25:18","slug":"the-shotguns-in-the-closet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/the-shotguns-in-the-closet\/","title":{"rendered":"THE SHOTGUNS IN THE CLOSET\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Flying home\nfrom a murder trial a few days ago, I read the book \u201cFurious Hours: Murder,\nFraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee\u201d by Casey Cep.&nbsp; Harper Lee, you\u2019ll recall, wrote the iconic\nnovel \u201cTo Kill a Mockingbird.\u201d&nbsp; Her fans\nknow that she was tight with Truman Capote, who wrote the \u201cnovelized\u201d story of\nthe Clutter family murders, \u201cIn Cold Blood,\u201d and she was with him for much of\nthe research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"336\" height=\"499\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Furious-hours.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5841\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Furious-hours.jpg 336w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Furious-hours-202x300.jpg 202w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The research\nincluded a tour of the crime scene, the Clutter home.&nbsp; Writes Cep, \u201c(Capote) made three pages of\nnotes that evening; she made nine, including details on every one of the\nClutter house\u2019s fourteen rooms.&nbsp; Lee\nrecorded the height of the kitchen cabinets and the titles of the books, the\ncolor of the walls and the patterns of the linoleum, the gauges of the shotguns\nin the closet\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shotguns\nin the closet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Clutters\nlived in a large farmhouse in the country, in a relatively safe low-crime\ncommunity.
