If\nyou\u2019ve followed my work for any length of time, you know that I\nconstantly compare the defensive firearm to a fire extinguisher. Each\nis a piece of emergency life-saving rescue equipment, designed to\nallow first responders to stave off death until society\u2019s\ndesignated responders can get there with their special equipment and\nintensive training, to take over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\ndebate point works well on the gun owners\u2019 civil rights issue. The\nreason is that there are maybe 10% dedicated \u201canti-gun\u201d on one\nside of the bell curve, 10% of us just as dedicated \u201cpro-gun\u201d\npeople on the other, and perhaps 80% of people in the middle. The\ndefensive gun\/fire extinguisher analogy reminds those in the middle\nthat they\u2019re already practicing what we\u2019re practicing \u2013\npreparing to deal with life-threatening situations on our own when\nthere isn\u2019t time for society\u2019s designated professionals to get\nthere \u2013 and they\u2019re simply using different equipment. It helps\nthem to better understand the reality of the issue, and why we\npro-gunners stand where we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
