And looked as if it would hit right\nhere,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I feared for the woman whom I hold\ndear<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n And even for our resident deer,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n (Not to mention my own rear)!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n We had food, and water, and meds, and\nbeer,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Generator to AED \u2013 all of the gear,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n And were ready to stay it out right\nhere,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n And <\/em><\/strong>prepared to bug out, if we had <\/strong>to\nget clear.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Fortunately, however, the storm did\nveer \u2013 <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n And we never had to shed a tear:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Preparation had still been the antidote\nto fear.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n As Florida\nprepped for the monster storm, I kept hearing the term \u201cworrycane.\u201d People\nterrified of a weather apocalypse. The\nlong-time residents here in Hurricane Alley were wishing each other \u201cHappy\nHurricane\u201d when we met at the store or the post office. Sometimes practicality just sounds <\/em>fatalistic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Evil\nPrincess and I had been through these before, and had discovered that for the\nprepared, it was more of an adventure than a disaster. We were prepared. Fortunately, we didn\u2019t have to experience\nadventure or <\/em>disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Backwoods Home <\/em>\u2013 the magazine, books, the website,\nthe blogs like this one, and indeed the whole concept \u2013 were built on the\nfoundational value of self-reliance. Of\nindividual ability and freedom combined with a sense of community.
