I recently\ngot a little bit of face time with LTC Allen West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I told\nhim, I was sorry he didn\u2019t speak longer when I caught him at the NRA Annual\nMeeting last spring, and I was looking forward to hearing more from him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was not\ndisappointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A combat\nveteran with a distinguished military record that includes the Bronze Star,\nWest is a former US Congressman from Florida who, many believe, only lost his\nre-election bid because of purple state re-districting. He is, you see, a\nconservative African-American Republican. \nAnd, yes, he is extremely <\/em>pro-gun\nand pro-armed citizen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among other\nthings, he awakened me to a fact I had not realized: the Republican Party in\nTexas, where he now resides, was founded by black freedmen in the\nmid-Nineteenth Century. I already knew that back in that day \u2013 until not so\nvery long ago! \u2013 the Democrats had been the party of slavery and later,\nsegregation, while the Republicans were the ones who had killed that social\nevil back during the Civil War.  Exactly\nhow the Democrats managed to flip that in the election booths during my\nlifetime is something to discuss another day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those\nwho apply logic and common sense instead of political identity in the voting\nbooth, Allen West is an inspiration. I particularly liked the way he thanked\nthe Young Marines who came out to support the event I was fortunate enough to\nattend. https:\/\/www.youngmarines.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would be very much worth your time to read Col. West\u2019s book, \u201cHold Texas, Hold the Nation.\u201d (www.TheOldSchoolPatriot.com), <\/a>and his earlier work, \u201c<\/a>Guardian of the Republic<\/a>,\u201d.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
