BOB SCHWARTZ"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>God, I hate\nlosing the good ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I knew Bob\nSchwartz for more than thirty years. He had fought cancer before and won. This\ntime, it came on him too fast and too hard for his iron constitution to\nconquer. He passed away peacefully at home with his wife and other loved ones\non November 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As his <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"obituary shows (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.legacy.com\/funeral-homes\/obituaries\/name\/robert-schwartz-obituary?pid=194383695&amp;v=batesville\" target=\"_blank\">obituary shows<\/a>, Robert Schwartz lived a long and productive life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Some 27 years ago, he and his lovely wife\nMaury moved from his native Connecticut to join us in free New Hampshire.&nbsp; He told me he loved the idea of not only\nliving in a smaller community, but serving it.&nbsp;\nHe knew that a tradition in small New England towns was to perform that\nservice by joining the emergency services \u2013 emergency medical, volunteer fire\ndepartment, part-time police officer. He chose the latter route.&nbsp; For a full quarter century, he served in\nuniform to protect the public. He joked that he wanted to live to be the oldest\nworking police officer in the state, and you know, he may just have made it: he\nwas still on staff and hoping to get back on patrol when, at 76, he had to\nleave us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A bear of a\nman, the proverbial gentle giant, Bob\u2019s great physical strength and abilities\nwere tempered with great patience and compassion, the sort of things that come\ntogether to make a great cop.&nbsp; He was\nalso a gun enthusiast and a helluva good pistol shot.&nbsp; It\u2019s rare for a state law enforcement academy\nto have a part-time police officer come in to teach full-time career cops, but\nthat\u2019s exactly what happened with Bob.&nbsp;\nYes, he was that good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bob Schwartz\nwas a fine man of a rare breed, and he will be greatly missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Bob-Schwartz-3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6030\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Bob-Schwartz-3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Bob-Schwartz-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Bob-Schwartz-3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Bob-Schwartz-3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Bob Schwartz was a good friend a good cop, and a hell of a good shot. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>God, I hate losing the good ones.
