{"id":6106,"date":"2020-01-05T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-05T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=6106"},"modified":"2019-12-31T20:23:34","modified_gmt":"2020-01-01T01:23:34","slug":"a-new-year-safety-thought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/a-new-year-safety-thought\/","title":{"rendered":"A NEW YEAR SAFETY THOUGHT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>No matter\nhow cool we think we are with our gun handling, complacency is a constant and\nimplacable enemy.&nbsp; A lot of shooters\nmistakenly think \u201c<em>good<\/em> trigger pull\u201d\nis synonymous with \u201c<em>light<\/em> trigger\npull,\u201d and that ain\u2019t necessarily so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out this article by my old friend Ralph Mroz, a very capable self-defense firearms instructor: <a href=\"https:\/\/thestreetstandards.wordpress.com\/2019\/03\/12\/sigh-why-light-triggers-arent-recommended\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">https:\/\/thestreetstandards.wordpress.com\/2019\/03\/12\/sigh-why-light-triggers-arent-recommended\/<\/a> .\u00a0 <em>Follow the links, and the links within the links!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All I have\nto add is this: on any defensive firearm, a so-called \u201chair trigger\u201d \u2013 lighter\nthan factory specification for \u201cduty\u201d use, or lighter than \u201ccommon custom and\npractice\u201d among those who routinely carry such firearms in harm\u2019s way \u2013 a big\nconcern is that the ultra-light trigger feeds into <em>wrongful allegation of culpable negligence even when the shot was\nintentionally fired in self-defense.&nbsp; <\/em>A\npolitically-motivated prosecutor or a greed-motivated plaintiff\u2019s lawyer knows\nthat once established, self-defense is \u201ca perfect defense,\u201d but there is no\nsuch thing as a \u201cjustifiable accident.\u201d&nbsp;\nIt\u2019s a lot easier for either of them to convince a jury that a good\nperson became careless and did something stupid than to convince them that a\ngood person suddenly turned into Jack the Ripper with a gun instead of a\nblade.&nbsp; I\u2019ve seen that dirty trick played\nmany times in what is now over 40 years as an expert witness for the courts in\nshooting cases. It\u2019s a lot easier to convince a jury that a \u201chair trigger\u201d gun\nwent off by indefensible accident than a gun with a duty-weight trigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PLEASE read Ralph\u2019s article.
