Though you wouldn\u2019t know it in the time of coronavirus social isolation, my primary day job is teaching the judicious application of lethal force, and how to effectively shoot under pressure. (http:\/\/massadayoobgroup.com<\/a>) I\u2019m effectively out of work (that<\/em> work, anyway) \u2018til the end of America\u2019s shutdown. So\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our friends at the Wilson Combat YouTube channel<\/a>, which offers a cornucopia of good advice from some great teachers of the gun, just posted a segment with me and a legend in our business, Ken Hackathorn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s about\nwhat I call the Blind Swordsman Drill, a method that my students and I have\nfound remarkably effective for improving trigger control.  When you do it, remember to hold the gun on\ntarget when you open your eyes: you want to see if the gun is returning\nnaturally to point of aim.  For safety\u2019s\nsake, always do it with someone there to keep an eye on things.  With your eyes closed, if you\u2019re alone you\nwon\u2019t be able to see of someone or something gets between you and the target,\nor you and the backstop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if\nyou\u2019re in shutdown right now, this same drill works dry-fire. Always make sure\nyou dry- fire at something that could stop the most powerful round from that\nparticular gun \u2013 it\u2019s just one more logical safety net.  When you open your eyes after the \u201cclick,\u201d\nthe sight picture will tell you where the shot would have gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
