In third\nquarter 2019, it was announced that Hollywood was coming out with a movie\ncalled \u201cThe Hunt,\u201d in which wealthy Elites amused themselves by murdering those\nof us they considered Deplorables. Sort of equal parts \u201cThe Most Dangerous\nGame\u201d and \u201cThe Purge.\u201d Our side of the current Great Political Divide was\nunderstandably outraged. It was then\nannounced that the movie\u2019s premier would be postponed, and the furor faded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the closing of the theaters due to the\npandemic, \u201cThe Hunt\u201d recently opened in streaming format, for a fee I\u2019m told is\nabout twenty bucks. Tip: <\/strong>You can rent it from Redbox for like $1.80.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I saw it. I\u2019m not the least bit\n\u201ctriggered.\u201d The movie turns out to be\nsatire, folks. It\u2019s funny as hell, and honestly, the Elites seem to get the\nworst of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The two factions are both led by\nstrong female characters. Leader of the\nDeplorables is a practical blue-collar Southern gal named Crystal, played by\nBetty Gilpin. The dominant Elite is\nnamed Athena, played by the aptly named Hilary Swank, who turns out to be a\nhell of an athlete though perhaps with some aid from strategically placed stunt\nwomen. \u201cAthena\u201d is portrayed as a\nstereotype \u201crich bitch\u201d right out of Central Casting, rich as in \u201chas her own\nintercontinental private jet full of caviar and champagne with which to\ntransport a dozen kidnap victims and her own murderous friends\u201d rich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCrystal\u201d is the least unlikeable\ncharacter in the whole movie and is the undisputed star of the film. Spoiler\nalert: <\/strong>She ends up as the last combatant standing, and has the magical\nability to conceal a quantity of spare 12 gauge shotgun shells in skin-tight\nclothing. She takes no crap from anybody:\none character on her side is listed in the credits as \u201cShut the f*** Up Gary\u201d\nbecause that\u2019s how Crystal constantly addresses him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I told my lovely bride about that.\nShe replied, \u201cShut the f*** up, Mas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But she said it sweetly, so it\nhelped me relate to the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The lesson is, don\u2019t get all\nworked up over stuff we\u2019ve only been told about and haven\u2019t seen yet.
