{"id":6690,"date":"2021-02-18T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-18T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=6690"},"modified":"2021-02-17T20:43:40","modified_gmt":"2021-02-18T01:43:40","slug":"the-worthlessness-of-hr-127-part-iii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/the-worthlessness-of-hr-127-part-iii\/","title":{"rendered":"THE WORTHLESSNESS OF HR 127, PART III:"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>THE EFFECT ON THE CORRECTIONS SECTOR<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The same prohibitionist far left wing that wants to ban guns has of late been vociferous in demanding reduction of incarceration.&nbsp; It\u2019s not just social justice posturing: there are genuine concerns about jails and prisons being hotbeds of COVID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are an estimated 2.3 million people currently incarcerated in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How many law-abiding citizens own semi-automatic rifles erroneously called \u201cassault rifles\u201d? It\u2019s hard to pin down a number.&nbsp; A common estimate is 17 million.&nbsp; If each of those refused to register or turn in their firearm under HR 127, we would increase our nation\u2019s prison population by more than seven-fold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That probably underestimates the depth of the problem. The way 127 is written, a <em>great <\/em>many more rifles, handguns, and shotguns would \u201cfit the profile\u201d than just those which outwardly resemble M16s, M4s, and AK47s in form though not in function.&nbsp; If it passed into law, every single man and woman who lawfully possessed one would become a felon overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, some feel that the intent of the \u201cfelonize America bill\u201d is not to lock up the gun owners \u2013 after all, the elites need all those people to grow food and make automobiles and fix things for them \u2013 but instead to make it illegal for them as convicted felons to own firearms of any kind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And to disenfranchise them from voting, since in most jurisdictions a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsl.org\/research\/elections-and-campaigns\/felon-voting-rights.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">felony conviction costs you the right to vote<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Write your elected representatives in Washington, DC.
