There are reasons one might pay $5,300 for a new revolver. Behold the group fired from the Korth NXR .44 Magnum, imported from Germany by Nighthawk Custom in Berryville, Arkansas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is one I\u2019m testing for On Target <\/em>magazine. It weighs some 58 ounces unloaded with that Trijicon RMR red dot sight (not included in the gun\u2019s purchase price). That group comprises four rounds of the ferocious 1200 foot-second 310 grain SuperHardCast Hammerhead lead bullet .44 Magnum ammunition loaded by Garrett Cartridge.  Price of the ammo is around two bucks per shot and, if you\u2019re hunting big game or defending yourself against something like bears, worth every penny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four of them are in one small hole. You have to look very closely to see the edge fourth radius. The one \u201cflyer,\u201d the first shot, was my fault I am sure. The pistol was on a Caldwell Matrix rest atop a concrete bench on my 25-yard range.  The flat bottom stocks you see in the photo of the whole revolver helped stabilize the Korth even more solidly than usual on the Matrix rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performance has a price. Looking on the optimistic side, a gun like this is an heirloom you\u2019ll pass on to your descendants, and if you use it for twenty years it will cost you less than 75 cents a day.  And of course, there is that intangible pride of ownership thing\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
