Neither I nor my lovely bride, the Evil Princess, normally play the lottery. We understand odds. It\u2019s a loser\u2019s game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But every now and then, it\u2019s fun to go against the odds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One day in a convenience store, on a whim, we decided to buy a lottery ticket. Hey, it\u2019s two dollars worth of hope, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the lottery was over, we found we had won\u2026another ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, what the heck. We got the other ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When that <\/em>lottery was drawn we discovered we had won ten dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Well, gee\u2026it\u2019s been a while since we\u2019ve been to Las Vegas, but I\u2019m not sure they even have blackjack tables there anymore that take bets as low as ten dollars. The whimsy continued: we traded our winning ticket for five more two-dollar tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And won fifteen bucks on one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What to do? Why, what does any gambler do with a winning streak? Ride it, <\/em>right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n So we traded that in on seven more two dollar tickets, and a dollar bill in change. (I gave the Princess the dollar. Because she\u2019s cute. And because I love her.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n And, whaddaya know, with that fourteen dollars worth of investment one of the tickets turned out to be worth twenty bucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We discussed just how long that rate of winning would take to snowball to a million dollars. We never came up with a figure, partly because neither of us are math majors and mainly because we were both laughing too hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So, we \u201cinvested\u201d our $20 winnings into ten more tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Which came up \u2026 bupkus. Nada. Nuthin\u2019. Zero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thus ended our foray into the lottery as an investment plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When it was over I said, \u201cLook on the bright side. Between us, we came out a dollar ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n When she tried to slap me she missed, so I guess I <\/em>came out ahead\u2026sort of\u2026 or at least even, maybe?<\/p>\n\n\n\n But, anyway, now you know why that lottery ticket in the picture looks as if someone crumpled it up\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Neither I nor my lovely bride, the Evil Princess, normally play the lottery.
