In the comments on my last blog entry below, Fruitbat 44 remarked, \u201cInteresting article, but \u2018The Evil Princess\u2019???!!! Well, we all have pet names for our loved ones, and while I suppose \u2018Snookums\u2019 and \u2018Honey-Sweetie-Pie\u2019 might get a bit cloying after awhile, I do wonder if \u2018The Evil Princess\u2019 might be going too far in the opposite direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, Fruitbat, I guess you kinda hafta know her\u2026 \ud83d\ude42    <\/p>\n<p>Comments are definitely invited here, as this is the sort of discussion that cries out for collective wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>One of my friends introduces his wife as \u201cThe War Department.\u201d She smiles approvingly each time.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, \u201cBitch\u201d only works as a pet name if you are BOTH agreed that it\u2019s an acronym for \u201cBeautiful, Intelligent, Talented, Charming, and Humble.\u201d  If you aren\u2019t in agreement on that, don\u2019t be surprised if you feel a sudden need to come up with an acronymic explanation of why her pet name for you is now spelled b-a-s-t-a-r-d.<\/p>\n<p>My Adult Supervisor is a podcast producer and self-styled Techno-Chick, while I am a reluctantly recovering Luddite. Our discussions of matters cybernetic generally end with me saying something like \u201cYes, Mensa Girl,\u201d while she replies soothingly, \u201cHave a banana, Mongo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A decade or so ago, I was having lunch with some prosecutors when the topic of a boys\u2019 night out arose, and the question was posited as to whether our wives would allow it. One of the fellas said, \u201cI\u2019ll have to ask She Who Must Be Obeyed.\u201d Another of our group \u2013 married at the time to an athletic woman almost six feet tall, who carried a gun and had put her share of aggressive males on the ground \u2013 chimed in, \u201cI think it will be OK with the Amazon Queen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the assistant district attorneys looked at the chief DA and asked, \u201cDo you have a pet name for your wife?\u201d He smiled smugly and replied, \u201cOh, you mean Obedient Wench?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was then that the rest of us knew we had to kill him\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What better time than Mother\u2019s Day to reflect on our pet names for the ones we love?
