We’ve known since the Ma’alot Massacre that the answer to mass murder of the helpless was good people right there at ground zero who are armed and can immediately respond to the attack. In recent days, we’ve seen two graphic examples of this.
In the attack on the synagogue, only one security person was injured and no innocents hurt because armed security immediately opened fire on the animal who attacked with explosives and a rifle.
Casualties were minimized – one innocent victim killed, two more wounded – when ROTC students counterattacked the gunman who had entered the “gun-free school.” One of those students was armed with a pocket knife and used it, as one spokesperson said, to render the attacker no longer alive.
Read the excellent book “First 30 Seconds” by leading authority on the topic Ed Monk. Just as a defibrillator right there when a heart attack strikes saves the lives of good people, so does a deadly weapon right there which can be deployed by the good people to stop the evil people.
If one of those ROTC students had been allowed to carry a gun, the fanatical murderer might have been neutralized before he could murder the teacher and wound two more innocent victims.
