ISIS has now claimed credit for the terrorist attack in Garland, Texas…all fifteen seconds of it.
One good guy sustained a non-life threatening wound before quick thinking and fast shooting put both terrorists down and out.
Remember three years ago when the NRA’s Wayne Lapierre said the only thing that would stop a bad guy with a gun was a good guy with a gun? The media excoriated him for saying it, but this incident certainly proved the truth of his words once more.

  1. My favorite drawing at the art festival were the two chalk outlines outside the event.
    -shamelessly ripped off of FB

  2. People who say guns aren’t the answer have never been in a gunfight, sir. I’m very glad this turned out well.

  3. You can’t argue with the facts. That’s a job well done. Great example of what being prepared will do for you.

  4. After the investigation is complete, a detailed analysis of the shooting will be very interesting. At least one report has the Garland PD saying that after the officer’s initial shots, SWAT officers also fired. Regardless of who fired the fatal shots, the willingness of the first officer (apparently armed only with a handgun) to confront and fire on two (2) assailants shooting at him with rifles speaks volumes for personal courage and quick thinking under intense stress. Kudos also to the unarmed security guard who also got out of the car to confront the villains and then took a bullet. Applause to all of the good guys. Outstanding work, one and all.

  5. It was reported that the would be mass murderers for “allah” were wearing body armor. Without more info than initial reports, one could surmise that head shots took them out, as any other hits not covered by armor normally doesn’t stop the fight so quickly. Whichever, the police officer didn’t “spray and pray” or collapse into a fetal pile of quivering jello as some of the drive by cop haters that occasionally stray into this blog would have folks believe is the norm. Rather his training kicked in and he acquired his first target, engaged, eliminated, then moved to the next. Whether this involved ineffective hits to the torso before automatically moving to head shots (as I’m sure he was trained) we won’t know until later, if ever.
Well done officer. If I were your supervisor, I would be not only recommending you for the medal of valor for engaging two active shooters who were better armed than you, but also for a life saving bar for the carnage you prevented. Again, well done.

  6. It’s being reported that the Officer who took down the two terrorists with rifles and body armor was normally assigned traffic duty, and was working the event for some extra income. His weapon was a .45 Glock.

Perhaps he should be reassigned to to a firearms instructor position.

  7. Mr. Lapierre’s words are the real “Inconvenient Truth”. How disappointed many in the MSM must be that the good guy with the gun cheated them out of another mass killing to report on. I’m not saying they want people to die at the hands of terrorist and criminals, but they sure as hell love to embellish the drama that surrounds such events. It’s like pornography for newscasters.

  8. Absolutely, a good man with a gun stop these terrorist. But I would add, “A good
well trained man with a gun stopped these terrorist. Those of us who carry must commit ourselves to training, and maintaining our skill levels!

  9. They showed photos of the people inside and they had all started to pray. I was very disappointed than not one of them had drawn a gun and taken a covering position. Come on, this was TEXAS!

  10. My thought is that every capable citizen ought to carry their firearm whenever possible, and perhaps even when it is not “possible”. Radical islamists (and other criminal elements, of course, yet today we speak of Garland) will kill without mercy wherever good men and women do not stand and oppose them.

  11. One cop took out two body-armored, “assault rifle” wielding bad guys using his sidearm? Assuming head shots, what were the distances involved and how many shots were fired? Mighty fine shooting in any case. That officer deserves a medal.

  12. The officer that put the perps down certainly knew what to do. The news says he use a .45 Cal Glock, and he stopped the two perps despite their use of body armor. That is courage backed by skill.

  13. I read one was living in Phoenix, don’t recall the other one, but I think US. I’ve been hearing about an ISIS training center in Mexico i think east of Tijuana and eight miles south of the boarder I even saw some photos of a few dirt tracks and a shed of some kind. The rumor is the cartels are working with them.
While i could believe it’s not true the clincher for me is Obama says it’s not so of course it must be.

  14. I am very happy it was an armed citizen and it went down fatally (and swiftly!)for the “terrorists”, but I am far too cynical nowadays. Any reporting of this in the so-called mainstream will find that somewhere in his life the armed citizen once said he would use his weapon if he needed to and he’ll be charged with violating the religious rights of the two he killed because they had ties to Islamist groups.

But maybe I’ll wake up tomorrow morning and the world will make some kind of friggin’ sense. A guy can hope, right?

  15. Garland Texas is just the beginning., unfortunately those which follow will not end so nicely for the guys in white hats.
I’m leaving the pom poms in the closet

  16. It exonerates not only Wayne LaPierre’s statement, but also all us “gun nuts” who proclaim something akin to, “The Second Amendment protects the First – and all the rest.”

Anti-freedom types roll their eyes when we say it, but Garland, TX, just proved it. Literally.

  17. Apparently, Mr. Lapierre was not entirely correct when he said, “The only thing that will stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

The only thing that will stop bad guys with guns is a good guy with a gun.

    🙂

  18. No matter how much clear, easy to understand, obvious logic you use, it’s hopeless. Nothing you say will ever change the mind of an anti-gun nut. Right after it happened I heard one of CNN’s crew talking about how an event like this is partly caused by anyone in Texas being able to walk into a gun store and buy a gun. The other CNN news person that they were discussing it with agreed. All I can do is shake my head and try not to think about it.

  19. Mas, so good you used the phrase “truth of his words,” referring to Wayne LaPierre’s now-famouse quote. It will continue to go down in history as one of THE best. I worry liberal, anti-gun America will never believe we are telling the truth – that we are WITH them and not against them. Facts, logic, common sense – not one is trusted.

  20. Unfortunately, the reports are that the good guy who was shot was an “unarmed Garland ISD” security officer who was with the officer who returned fire and killed the instigators. I also believe this happened in a “victim disarmament zone” and note that the armed officer was not a victim. Coincidence?

  21. Eddie, One source is reporting the officer was carrying a Glock in .45 acp.

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2015/05/05/how-one-hero-texas-cop-with-a-45-cal-glock-took-out-two-gunmen-with-rifles-body-armor/

What is laughable (and sad) in this posting is CNN’s computer generated re-enactment depicting two officers returning fire with what appears to be either mp-5’s or Uzi’s, either of which would be full-auto sub-machine guns. In reality only one was a commissioned police officer, armed with a semi-auto pistol, the other “officer” was an unarmed school security guard (whose bravery cannot be overlooked).

  22. The way the gun hating idiots will see it is he is a cop. I’m not slamming cops but the one we have in the small town I live in my 11yr old son can out shoot them he has proved it. i had me an easy $100 made until the cop said he didn’t want to take my money. I told him if he was scared just say so. He wouldn’t bet any money but my son still embarrassed the shit out of him.
Guess I said all that to say he is supposed to have a Gun he is a Cop. We surfs are not supposed to have such rights. But he did do one heck of a job killing to goblins with a handgun and they had semi auto rifles. Chalk to up for the good guys. One of the Seal Teams motto is God will judge our enemies, we will arrange the meeting. Bet the bad guys are not to happy where they are since it wasn’t allah that judged them.

  23. Articles are starting to say that “traffic cop” who killed the 2 terrorists had a .45 Glock.

  24. Did the good guy make head shots? I heard the bad guys were wearing body armor, so I assume the good guy had to make head shots. Darn good shootin’.

(I got the following idea from John Farnam). Contrast the response of Texans to a terrorist attack, with the response of Frenchmen to a terrorist attack. I’m sure the French could do a good job if their government allowed them to.

  25. I find it interesting that ISIS even claimed responsibility since, from their point of view, it was an epic failure. “If that’s the best you’ve got…” I’m really really proud of Texas law enforcement.

I read on CNN (so it could be completely inaccurate) that the cop used a .45 caliber Glock, but they didn’t say which model. I’d love to know how many rounds. I assume head shots since they were apparently wearing body armor.

I have an idea: There should be a law against being able to purchase body armor so that criminals and terrorists…, oh wait, never mind.

  26. Great shooting. Would really like some details. Understand why not releasing name of police officer. Heard used a 45 Glock, no mention if acp or gap caliber. But what about distance? Did officer take head shots as terrorists wearing body armor? One shot kills with both terrorists?

  27. Some accounts included that the two terrorists were wearing some type of body armor – but I doubt that the officer saw that in his initial reaction. The Garland police force practices 3 times a gear according to the local TV station. I wonder if this officer didn’t practice more on his own time. The officer was armed with a Glock .45/

    From CNN:
“For all the mandatory firearms and other training police officers undergo — from stationary targets to computer simulations to live exercises — “you also have to have the composure and the concentration” to hit your target, Fuentes notes. It’s one thing to aim at a cardboard target at a gun range; it’s another to shoot straight when the targets are shooting back with assault rifles.

Clearly, the Garland police officer had his wits about him. Both Fuentes and Fairburn point out that hitting one suspect could be an accident, but not two.”

  28. That slimy Texas police officer was clearly a racist Moslem hater for viciously slaughtering those two courageous freedom fighters defending their idol.

  29. The best outcome of this taking down for the ten count two well armed wannabe jihadis is that it was accomplished within seconds by a GPD Traffic Officer and not by a SWAT Team member. Traffic Officers worldwide are hereby vindicated and need not take any more bravo sierra from their rib-poking colleagues working in other LE divisions. Dos Tangos matados rápidamente? Bien hecho, GPD. Bien hecho, sin ninguna duda!

  30. Hard to argue with LaPierre’s comment.

CNN reporting a.45 Glock used by officer. Since he was off-duty, maybe a G30?

Bad guys should probably pick a different state to attack, odds against them in TX.

  31. I’ve done business in Garland. Hard to believe. I had to make sure I was listening to the radio well enough, and even then was convinced I was getting the story wrong. Must be somewhere else.

Made me remember why I carry, even when it’s a hassle: The day I don’t carry might be the day I’ll wish I had been carrying.

And the reason I practice uncovering, drawing, looking at background, looking for cover (beats listening to some of the homilies my pastor gives == and he probabliy thinks I’m lost in thought about the sermon 🙂 Instead, I’m wondering, would I know what to do if someone decided to go off on a room full of peaceful worshippers.

I get tempted to give it up. Sometimes I ask myself, “Are you nuts? You think you’ll ever need to be carrying your gun in *this* town?

Maybe that’s what a lot of people said in Garland, though.

  32. If there’s a greater testament than this to the value of being trained, equipped and ready, I can’t think what it would be.

  33. As a retired police officer this is why I always shot all the time, in competition, on my own…. I kept my marksmenship skills very high. To everyone who carries and to all American law enforcement officers, Garland Texas Officer was a shooter and he prevailed because he was. Practice, practice, practice…

I think you had one good well trained cop who was a shooter go up against two evil people who weren’t shooters and the best man won.

To all the anti gun people “ENOUGH ON GUN CONTROL”!!!

  34. Like someone on yahoo wrote, if you’re a terrorist wannabe and come to Texas when our Blue Bell factory is shut down, don’t expect a good result.

Expect more of the same in other states. The muslimes are serious and crazy. Be ready to fight back and give them what they want, a date with 72 goats and sheep.

  35. But they were cops, no? The antis have always claimed that only “specially/magically” trained police officers and a “few” others can be trusted with guns.

CNN is reporting that a traffic officer who was working security was the one repsonible for ending the attack. Link: http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/05/us/texas-police-shooting-hero/

I see this as ammo for the antis mantra that the police will protect us no matter what the danger.
