A few days ago we lost John Holschen to a heart attack. After a long career in the military that encompassed special forces, he had been teaching armed self-defense in the private sector for many years.

An articulate man with a questing mind, John was a progressive thinker who stayed on top of the latest research on human performance from the sport training world and elsewhere and integrated it into defensive training. On  the range he  used high tech gear that projected colored laser dots on different targets as an advanced form of shoot/don’t shoot experience.

A fine instructor in his own right, he was also a featured teacher every year at the RangeMaster Tactical Conference.

Deepest condolences to his wonderful wife Martha, an ace shooter herself, and his family and many friends.  John Holschen was a “thinking person’s trainer” in this field, and will be greatly missed.
