But before we get into that, please let me assure you folks who ordered seed in January and haven’t received them yet that they are being processed. We had a huge number of orders every day and we ran out of several varieties, chiefly the Hopi Pale Grey squash seed. We do have lots of squash, and other seeds that just needed to be cleaned and processed. I waited to make sure they were totally dry before shipping as I sure didn’t want any to mold! I’m finishing up with the orders today and tomorrow so your seeds ARE coming soon. I’m sorry to have worried you. As this is our first year, we didn’t have any idea of what to expect. We’ll do better next year.

On a good note, I do have more Bill Bean tomato seeds ready to sell so if you wanted some, just go ahead and order (click on the green box at the top of the blog). Thank you for your patience!

The very last thing Will needed to do on our new kitchen cabinets was to cut and poly some baseboards. The boughten ones were very expensive and not so pretty. We have a pile of nice, dry ash in the wood shed and he chose some with beautiful grain and cut them to fit. After 5 coats of poly, he installed them yesterday. What a feeling of accomplishment! Done!

Now we just have to save money for the upper cabinets, one or two at a time. But they’re not nearly as expensive and there’s no countertop either. Whew! The bathroom and kitchen look wonderful. We’re sure tickled. — Jackie

  1. cptacek,

We were TEMPORARILY out of Hopi Pale Grey seeds and had to cut and clean several squash to get more. Of course, they needed to dry several days to ensure that they wouldn’t mold in storage. But WE HAVE TONS OF HOPI PALE GREY SQUASH SEEDS NOW. In fact, we have a good supply of nearly all of the offerings, including Bill Bean tomatoes. (I found another envelope of them I didn’t remember I had.) We’re tickled with our little seed business and hope many more folks get to order seeds.

  2. Rick,

Wow, I never knew I was stylish!! That’s almost a cuss word around here. But seriously, I love my new cabinets! (And the guy who made them too.)

  3. Wow! I bet you didn’t think you would run out of Hopi Gray seeds! I was going to send an order in…good thing I checked first. I hope your seed business goes well both now and in the future.

  4. Hi jackie, I don’t know if this seed cleaning machine would help. Its home make and works a treat. We built one from the plans last year. It is in centimeters though. The guy who designed runs the seed company on the link here in Wales is a bit of a whiz on these things

Though of course you’d actually have to find time to build it first!

  5. GORGEOUS! Can’t wait to see the finished kitchen Jackie…I bet you can’t either. What a wonderful homestead you all are making. Just wonderful. :)

  6. Jackie, I just sent a mail order for a package of Bill Bean tomato seed. i don’t know where you found more seed but I had prayed you would….
    Thanks!!! Rick

  7. Jackie, Tell Will the knotty ash for the cupboard trim is wonderful!!! I have a friend who grades lumber and is a buyer for quite a sizable lumber company. She tells me her company rejects knotty or figured lumber for sale to their buyers who make some of the nationally known brands of solid wood furniture, but her neighbor who is a close friend of mine makes and sells custom furniture from his home shop for the high end niche (think wealthy Washington D.C. types). It takes 1 year from the time an order is placed until they can expect shipment or arrange for pick it up. But guess what he starts with??? 2 1/2 inch thick slabs of highly figured knotty or burled wood or pieces cut from the big Y places in huge logs of walnut, cherry, oak, maple etc. similar to the figuring on your baseboard. I have been there many times when he is selecting the lumber for these masterpieces. The finished pieces are magnificently gorgeous. Evidently his clientele agrees (think $ 10,000 and up for a dinning table alone-no chairs included at that price)….. so Jackie, dear, You’re styling!!! Lift your pinky finger when you sip tea near those cupboards……
    So happy for you!!!! Rick
