After a lengthy downhill slide, Mom passed away Friday morning, at the nursing home, in her sleep. We had known it was coming as she had been failing quickly, so my sisters and I had been spending days with her there. She only slept, but I’m hoping she knew we were there anyway. She was buried next to Dad, on a beautiful sunny day with the white pines whispering in the breeze. I know she’s up in heaven, tending gorgeous flowers that never fade, in a garden with no weeds, walking hand in hand with Dad and her pets playing about her feet.

I’m exhausted from this last week, but promise to get back to you tomorrow for sure. I miss all my Backwoods Home family, too!

  3. awww. I know it was “expected” but it still must hurt. You’ve done the right thing by putting this blog on hold while you did the most important thing you could do – spend the little time she had left, with her. And even if she didn’t know you guys were there, YOU all knew you were there. There will be no regrets about how you spent her last days!

Don’t worry about your blog. Just take care of your family, we’ll all be here when you are ready to resume blogging.

Many people that have near-death experiences talk about being outside their bodies and seeing their loved ones around their bed. I’m sure your mother knew you were there and saw her family around her when she left this earth. That must’ve been wonderful for her.

  21. I am so sorry. My parents both died very young. Dad was 52 and Mom 63. Way to young. You are blessed to have had your mom for the years you were allowed. God is good, All the time.

  22. May the saddness in your heart soon be replaced with smiles and happy memories of a long and well lived life. I think of my grandparents and parents and all of the times they lived through and the fun and happy times they had. They knew better than to take the little things for granted and appreciate so much more than we seem to in this hectic day and age. Get some rest Jackie, you and your family, and smile – you already know she is in a better place……..
