gettting-our-Christmas-tree-001

I hope you have a very warm and happy Christmas. Each and every one of you has become special to us. You encourage us on our tough days and bring smiles very often. I just want you to know how much YOU mean to us. Each of my books you buy helps add just a little more to our homestead and we think of you with thanks. Every question you send helps bring more meaning to what I do. As the New Year approaches, may each of you plan for the best on your homestead, with your life, and for your family. I love you all a whole lot! — Jackie

  3. Dear Jackie

Merry Christmas to you and your family. I have been following your column and your blog for over ten years now (maybe closer to 15). You are such an inspiration and you truly touch us all. Your writing is a joy to read. I hope someday to meet you. Please have a wonderful and safe new year and may it be fruitful, full of bounty and perfect temperatures to grow your favourite squash (Hopi I think?)

    Take care and God Bless

  11. you make me happy to read your articles, books, blogs and I have come back to canning, and bought a pressure canner even though they scared the crap out of me, with your encouragement I gave it a try. what a joy when the grandkids ask for chicken and dumplings to just open a couple jars bring it to a boil and drop those hard dumplings in (no one likes the fluffy ones, they all want the hockey puck ones) LOL, so when the tturkey has been enjoyed, next day start making soup with the carcas. blessed be to you and yours

  14. I don’t write fan letters but have wanted to send you one for a long time. Your wish to us for a watm Christmas was meaningful to us on the Canadian border in Northern Vermont. I have been gardening and “homesteading” to some degree for more than 50 years. With all my experience, I have learned a lot from you. I appreciate your blog with real not theoretical advice and even telling us of the occasional mistakes. Worry you might have fallen off the barn again when you miss a few days posting.
I am arthritic, diabetic, with heart trouble. Can’t do what I once did but now every success has more meaning. Christmas day will be giving several quarts of your recipe pickled beets to friends who love them with wives who don’t can- yet.

  15. May you and Will have a Blessed Christmas! Your articles and your love of homesteading has really motivated me to keep going thru some tough times. I appreciate you so much. Hopefully the New Year brings us all joy and more accomplishments.

  16. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Jackie! You bring a lot to my life – I look forward to reading the magazine every month, it’s always exciting to get it, and I love your columns so much. I also look forward to your blog, and ask Jackie, emails. I even save them, and I forward my favorites on to my daughter. You are my friend in canning and every self suficient thing I do, from making my own detergent, to having a garden every year. You cheer me up, teach me, and let me in on the richness of your lives. Thank you so much! God bless you and your loved ones, God bless your homestead and critters. May you have the best year ever!

  17. Jackie, Thank you so much for all you do. You homestead progress is inspiring to many of us all over the country- and beyond! Reading your columns (before blogging started) got me back into canning after a thirty year vacation. I especially love your meals in jars (like chili and stew) that are ready to serve quickly. All the best for the new year and a happy family Christmas! Donna Herlihy in New Hampshire

  18. Happy, happy holidays, Jackie and Will.

I am looking forward to a white Christmas…about to be snowed in thanks to the big winter storm sweeping the midwest. But thanks in large part to you, I know what to do, what to have close at hand, and how to be prepared for such an event. I even bought myself a present..a good book, (Barbara Kingsolver’s new one, “Flight Behavior”).

Peace and joy to you two, all your family, and all your critters, too.

  19. Merry Christmas to you all. And a great new year. You do not realize how much you mean to us. Stay warm stay healthy. Best wishes to each and everyone of you. Thanks for sharing with us.
