I see in the morning newspaper that Jon Huntsman, an Obama appointee, is campaigning in New Hampshire for the Presidential nomination. He apparently stopped at one of my favorite gun shops, Riley’s in Hooksett. Haven’t seen documentation of his position on gun owners’ civil rights yet, though. Mitt Romney has been reaching out to gun folks, though colleagues in Massachusetts tell me he wasn’t exactly a friend of firearms owners during his tenure there.
Meanwhile, on the White House front, we hear this: http://www.greeleygazette.com/press/?p=9614
Prospects for the next couple of years are not encouraging.
I renew my plea for Condoleeza Rice to throw her hat in the ring.

  1. Isn’t Ms Rice involved with the CFR? Do you trust her as a candidate? My wife and I were very much for her running if she would but we are concerned with some of these think tank folks.

  2. Hate to be negative here Mass but I simply can’t trust any candidates who is trust worthy. The problem is the DC network won’t allow any new and real honest leader to surface. The same crap is being given year after year and speech after speech while the normal, hard working, law abiding citizens are facing the daily hardships.

If someone says go and vote my question would be for whom.

  3. Massad, This officer was my friend and was a living ledgend in Monroe County. He survived five gunfights in his long years in law enforcment. He was my friend .

  4. A quick Google search of Huntsman and 2nd Amendment brings up a list of articles that state Mr. Huntsman is rather pro-second amendment. I’m not that familiar with Utah gun laws (which is funny because I hold a Utah non-resident permit) but all the articles I’ve read so far he is supportive of the 2nd Amd. in that state. Would that be the same as supportive of gun owners civil rights?

  5. I wonder what Cain’s position on the Second Amendment is. I’ve always admired Connie Rice but think that, having served in one administration, she will never become involved in politics again. My perception of her is that she’s too smart and not egotistical enough to run. Burnt once by the Beltway crowd, most normal people would stay away from that stove.

  6. Condi Rice, like Colon Powell, are well known Republicans.

However both of them forgot they were Republicans when they both voted for the Democrat Obummer. They betrayed their parties and careers to vote for the color of skin on Obummer.

Neither will ever win my trust back again; because with them, America does not come first, the color of skin comes first!

Now Obummer is intent upon destroying our country and the 2nd Amendment!

  7. Well, I can tell you I’m voting solely on 2A. Kind of hard to enjoy life if you lose the right to defend yourself.

What strikes me as irony though is how Obama might have been the single best thing for gun-rights. I know he’s no friend of gun rights but look what he in inadvertently did. Think of how many new gun owners he created just by getting elected. NRA should give him a medal, Best Firearms Salesman of the Century (I bet he’d love it). Look at the CCW climate, it’s growing.

Great thing is, opinions can change but once you’ve invested in a firearm, you’ll probable invest in more. Suddenly, if you weren’t before, you’ll be voting pro-2A from now on.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in these past few years have we lost ANY ground at all?

  8. Come to think of it , Mas, I haven’t heard what any of the announced runners think of gun rights. A taboo subject? It’s got to come up sometime, soon I hope.

  9. The only reference I can find to Cain and the Second Amendment is a clip from a speech where he talks about a national right to carry permit. He said a national permit should be the state’s perogative and not the feds. I have to agree. His first answer in that clip when asked about the Second Amendment is “I believe in it”. To great applause 🙂 I have to agree with that as well 🙂

  10. Obama didn’t deliver anything for the antigun lobby when the liberals controlled both the House and the Senate, which should say everything that needs to be known about just how “much” he really is interested in pushing it!
Every day closer to next November’s elections, the chance Obama will deliver anything for the antigun lobby plummets.

  11. @Matt

That’s true he didn’t go near gun-control other than his op-ed. I hope he and his advisors are smart enough to leave gun-control well enough alone.

But here’s the kicker, what if he’s saving that for his second term? Do some of what he wanted his first term, then save all the dicey stuff for his second term when he doesn’t have to worry about re-election.

I’d be quite happy if he decides to leave gun-control alone all together but do we really want to underestimate the guy?

There’s still the U.N. Small Arms Treaty brewing which he could sign next term and deal us one hell of a blow. Also look at his VP, Biden wrote the AWB for Clinton didn’t he?

  12. “There’s still the U.N. Small Arms Treaty brewing which he could sign next term and deal us one hell of a blow.”

Meaning NOTHING – unless 2/3 of senators would agree to ratify it.
And then we’d be Rosa Parks’ tens of millions of white cousins!

  13. Michelle Bachman to gun owners: “Be locked and loaded.”
“The right to keep and bear arms has to be protected because the Second Amendment is the final guarantor of all our constitutional rights,” is how Michelle Bachmann looks at the Second Amendment. http://readersupportednews.org/off-site-news-section/69-69/5791-bachmann-to-gun-owners-be-qlocked-and-loadedq (if you’re interested in reading the Politico blog’s article.)
So far as Condi running- there was a time I wanted her to run. No longer do I feel she’d be anything that we either need or want. More, I feel she’s so much like Colin Powell as to be his twin.
Romney? Not a chance- he’s a commie so far as I’m concerned, and if he is so pro-Second, why does Mass. have such strict gun control laws. He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Huntsman? A democrap is a dimocrap first and communist second, maybe American somewhere in the geneaology, but not worth mentioning ‘cuz it’s so ancient.
