“Oh, what a gift the giftie gie us,

To see ourselves as others see us.”

We see Robert Burns’ colloquial Scottish spelled different ways at different sources, but the underlying concept is spot on.  Someone just sent me this link.  Take a couple of minutes and see whether “You Know You’re A Gun Nut If…”  hits kinda close to home.

I enjoyed heck out of it, especially the part where he says “you actually know how to pronounce Masood Ayoob’s name.” This is my first exposure to MrColionNoir, but it won’t be my last.  The man is clearly One Of Us.

  1. Now I’m confused. Is your first name pronounced “Masood”?

Also, I’ve heard people call you (pronounced) “Mass”, as in the church service. Is that the correct way to shorten it?

  2. I have a little embarrassing story to admit.

I didn’t think you were a real person.

The very fist time I saw one of your books and I looked at the author’s name I thought “this is a joke, right?”

The author’s name was simply “Booya” spelled backward. (BOOYAH!!) I put the book down (I don’t remember which one) because I thought it wouldn’t be a serious gun book.

Yes. I’m a little embarrassed. And yes I love your books, now.

  3. Well, he seems to have pushed all the buttons, and skimmed all the high points of a “Gun Nuts’ loves, wishes and lifestyle.

Not sure his description covers every guns owner, but he certainly outlined most of them for many Second Amendment believers.

  4. It’s a fine line between spot-on and scary-on. Almost crossed it on this one.

What’s worse is the them likely carries over to knives, flashlights, 4WD vehicles, etc.

Ever covertly snapped a pic of someone’s iron in order to study it later under magnification?

    Oops, just crossed it!

  5. How true. Add: You need to add on to the house to fit more gun and equipment storage because there isn’t room in the garage or the house; you own cases of ammo in calibers you don’t own guns for, yet; friends call you for ammo they can’t find at Wal-Mart; you buy a handgun to match the hi-cap mags you found at a gun show; you watch more gun auctions on line than you watch TV; you upgrade your cable package just to get the shooting channels basic doesn’t include; you hide guns in your house because your gun safe is full; you measure closet and open garage areas every time gun safes are on sale to see if another one will fit; you map out gun ranges near your vacation travel destinations; gun factory tours are a vacation destination; gun training schools are a vacation dstination; you have all nearby gun range schedules memorized; you bring a gun and ammo with you in case you find time to stop and shoot during the day; family knows they can shop for you off your wish list at your favorite onine gun store; you give away old gun magazines because you’ve run out of room for them.

  6. Scary but sooooo true. I consider myself a practical person and my gun purchases were based on what I would need on a farm. I even based my caliber purchases on your article suggesting you should stay with what you can easily maintain on target. I always buy two if everything just in case. But now all that said I found to much relevance with the video. I seem to have built up a collection of guns not in my standard caliber. I always comparison shop ammo prices with Walmart. I do reload. Of and I don’t even live near a farm 🙂 and all the political comments are spot on

  7. I scored 99%. I just didn’t know who/what that Mosad Aob was/is!!!!!!! Going to have to research a little more!!!!!

  8. I also hit in the 90th percentile. I lost a few point cuz I never got into AK’s or Glocks, but I do know what AK stands for. 🙂

  9. It’s a good thing this video was only 2 minutes long. I was getting a crick in my neck from nodding. Well done documentary.

  10. Eric, I pronounce it “Mass-SAHD,” but prefer just “Mas,” which does indeed rhyme with “brass.” (Rhymes with something else, too, but I try not to go there…)

  11. Mas and Friends:

Should we say ” Gun Nut” or ” Firearms Enthusiast” ? By either name, MrColionNoir has it right, embarassingly so. I found myself grinning at every point.

I guess I scored in high 90’s – dont have a Glock of any flavor-prefer XD for Tupperware guns; while acknowledging its engineering brilliance and world-wide use, I personally dont care for the Avtomat Kalashnikov. I did once buy a Hi-Power after I scored about 15 full capacity Hi-Power mags from someone moving to Kalifornia.

Thanks for bringing this up – I look forward to more of his work.

    Regards

    GKT

  12. I can sympathize with this guy! Just got done doing laundry this morning and picked out 9mm ammo from the washing machine after last night at the range. Fortunatley the 10mm was found in the pockets before doing the wash; it makes a heck of a racket like the 45 and 44 mag……He did not mention the dedicated room for ammunition manufacturing on the property to keep feeding the habit…..

  13. My bad….you didn’t forget the link. My old antiquated browser at work just wouldn’t show the embedded video. Stupid Internet Explorer 7.

  14. Mr. Noir’s channel is a fine one. His review videos are fresh, with fine video edits and annotations, and his work is never boring or unnecessarily drawn out (all apologies to Nut’n’Fancy).

My biggest smile came from him actually mentioning you.

I hate to be a brown-noser, but over the past couple of years, I’ve gone the extra miles looking for Harris’ “Complete Book of Handguns” – or as I call it, my annual fix of Ayoob reviews – since 1993 at least.

I also apologize – when I shorten your name, I’m more Mas as is “moss” (Mossberg?). And in response to an earlier poster’s “Booya” comment, I once did a tribute character as “Dassam Booya” – my groups’ armorer.

  15. For those of you who don’t know, Mr. Ayoob’s secret crimefighting alter ego’s name is Sam Booya. It sure beats the living heck out of Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne. We oldtimers also know him as “Yoda”.

That narrator sure can read a teleprompter pretty fast, almost as
quickly as our benevolent, pro-Second Admendment Dear Leader.

  16. No Glocks.. don’t like the way they fit my small hands. No AK’s, either, just a Mosin Nagant…. nor AR’s. But I DO have an FN AR, which I suppose might get me in the game. And a Swedish Ljungman. Generally don’t care for plastic frame handguns, stick with steel/stainless. Far more fun to shoot. No significant other, yet, so I buy what I want that I can afford. When I DO marry, she’ll almost certainly already have a place for arms in her own life. Only guns in calibers that are relatively easy to find…. and affordable. 375 H&H is a bit tough to find, and rather dear when done. 416 Rigby, same deal. However, I’m considering a .338 Lapua…… though the .338 Win Mag is fine….

I always figured two of the certain qualifiers for “gun nut” category are not really knowing just how many I’ve got, and always having a small assortment with me when I travel….. which is why I will NOT ever go into Chicago, New York City, Newark, or most of New Jersey. California is bad enough…… and I am scrupulous about their nazified laws…..

  17. I knew I was in good company when I found out my new neighbor in Wisconsin named his fifth son “Ruger”…

  18. Mas,

Were you being uncharacteristically dry, or uncharacteristically charitable? This individual clearly *can’t* pronounce your name, and sounds more like “someone who thinks he knows us” than “one of us”.

  19. After viewing more of “Mr. Noir”‘s material, I stand corrected; he is, more or less, one of “Us”.

  20. I loved his “You know you’re a conceal carry nut if…” video… and he had me pegged on just about EVERY SINGLE indicator except “you suck at giving hugs.”

This guy is awesome, and I’m now enjoying the hell out of his videos.

  21. I still can’t pronounce your name, so I just go with it. Read everything you write. I facedbooked Colion Noir. Gun with reload, back up gun with reload and a knife – gun guy alright.

  22. Thanks, Mass. I watched several of his videos. Good man, with a clear head.

Loved the “You vote for the president who is against gun control” line.
