It is axiomatic that guns aren’t toys.

But guns are FUN. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, more recreational dollars are spent in America on guns and the gun sports than are spent on golf.

And we’ve all heard the old saying, “The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.”

Not to mention that on firearms forums, the term “gun store” is often spelled “fun store.”

Put it all together, and you can understand why I smiled when I learned from Snopes that the building which formerly housed a Toys ‘R Us store in Yuma, Arizona is now a gun shop.

Insert all the additional cliches you want…I still think it’s cute.

What do YOU think?

  1. Since golf was mentioned, and once upon a time I played golf, it has a really good analogy to guns. Back when I played, you were allowed up to 13 or 14 (been decades) clubs in the bag. Different clubs for different purposes/needs.

Which is an outstanding answer to the question of why you might need so many guns. Just as you don’t use a putter to tee off, you don’t use a shotgun where a rifle (even an evil MSR) is better suited. And so on.

  2. Had a company armorer get his wrist slapped for putting up a sign “Guns ‘R’ Us”. Of course, the army discourages use of the “G Word” except for artillery pieces with a barrel length “45 times or more the caliber.”

    • Interesing factoid.. “guns” and barrel length to calibre equation.

So the guy who VERY MUCH dislikes what he keeps referring to as “that GUN” is way out in the weeds. I dont think it would be very efficient for me to carry round on my hip a “gun” thusly defined.
Don’t think I”m gonna correct him, though. He very also does not like anyone “correcting” him even when he is wrong about something.

I have to cut him some slack cause he came here from a former Brith Colony nd we ALL know how all Brit Poohbahs feel about arms in the hands of the peons. “Nasty thing,s who would want to have one of THOSE?”

  3. You do have to admit that it is pretty cool that I can buy a gun online, pay by credit card, and have it shipped to my local dealer. Not quite as good as shipping to my door, but I’m not fussing.

Having said that, I bought one off of GunBroker, and the seller shipped it via USPS because UPS and Fed Ex are making it impossible to ship guns. The postal carrier left the gun outside the front door of my dealer. He found it sitting on the stoop when he opened.

    Gotta love it.

  4. A Gentleman I bumped into literally at shot show in 2016 was looking over Sig sauer’s latest offerings, he looked straight at me fondling a 1911 and said ” fun and gun are only 1 letter apart ” truest words ever said. Golf clubs, yeah there cute
