I heard that the prosecutor’s office in New Jersey, after some gentle guidance from the NJ State Attorney General’s Office, has decided to put Shaneen Allen into a diversion program instead of taking her to a political show trial.  It’s good to see common sense prevail.  Congratulations to attorney Evan Nappen, who guided her through it, and to all those of you who supported this young woman who didn’t realize she was committing a victimless crime.

And, Eric Holder announced today, he is retiring as Attorney General of the United States.

Somewhere behind her blindfold, Lady Justice must be smiling.

  1. Thank God. Shaneen Allen was taken off the railroad to hell. There’s got to be a special place in hell for Holder.

  2. Recently a school boy was punished for having an empty cartridge case he was given at a 9-11 observance. National Guard was told to stop handing out T-shirts with the image of a guardsman holding a rifle.
I don’t have anyplace to squawk so I’ll just vent here, hit “delete” now if you want.
Schools are using aversion training, brain-washing, to make our next group of adult citizens fear guns and anyone who is holding one. Some of the vicious attacks against school children by faculty and administrators is, in my opinion, criminal child abuse and charges should be brought against them along with civil cases for punitive damages. Am I over reacting, dumb as a box of rocks or is there a glimmer of truth there?

  5. I’m happy for Shaneen, for once common sense prevailed.

I’m concerned that Eric Holder “might” be our next Supreme Court Justice.

And if that ever happened our gun rights may be out the window.

  7. I’m very happy for Shaneen, it’s about time justice was done!

I’m glad Holder is gone, but I really hope he doesn’t end up in the Supreme Court!
I can’t imagine that he will let us keep our GUNS!

  9. http://www.examiner.com/article/networks-fail-to-report-reason-for-holder-resignation

“Holder’s resignation comes on the heels of a ruling today by a federal judge that the contempt of Congress citation against Holder can proceed to the next level. House leaders had been stymied by the refusal of Holder and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to comply with requests for appropriate documents in the ongoing investigations into the Fast and Furious debacle. The House further was thwarted by the refusal of DOJ personnel to cooperate with Congress in the ongoing investigations.”

Holder will still be a deecee insider.

  12. Lew .. you are neither over-reacting nor dumb. The role of educators is to teach people (especially vulnerable/impressionable children) to learn, not to teach them to accept mind-set drills at an early age.

Educators who focus their efforts on early indoctrination of political bias are nothing better than brainwashing propagandists, no matter how ‘noble’ they may consider their motives.

Unfortunately, they are often supported by school boards and other elected officials.

Which makes it your responsibility to vote for people who most nearly approximate your own values … if you want your values to be treated at least neutrally in the education of the next generation.

As for Shaneed Allen .. justice has been served, in a way. But wouldn’t it be nice if the arresting officer had just said: “Ma’am, please turn around and take your gun back across the border, where it’s legal. You’re not legally allowed to carry in New Jersey”.

  15. Good going for Shaneen Allen, sometimes things have a way of working out right.
As for Eric Holder resigning; One has to wonder why, during this major Justice Dept. investigation in Ferguson , MO that Holder wouldn’t want to see it to a conclusion.
And yes, if Holder became a Supreme Court Justice our gun rights could be in jeopardy. There is some talk about Justice Ginsberg 80 retiring. On the other hand this would be trading one liberal for another (0 sum)

  18. Breath taking case of common sense in the NJ thing.

Don’t cheer the forthcoming (he’ll serve until a replacment is confirmed) departure of AG Holder until you see who replaces him.

  20. Now , if we can get Mexico to do some “common sense ” thinking and send our soldier back home .
It was pretty much the same thing .

As far as Holder goes– best news I have heard in a long time .

  23. While I’m glad that Ms. Allen is off the railroad to hell for a simple mistake that should at most have resulted in a fine, I’m mixed about Holder.

He was a horrible AG, no question, but just like Hillary getting replaced with Kerry, Holder will be replaced by someone just as bad if not worse. After all, Al Sharpton has publicly admitted that he’ll be pulling Obama’s strings on selecting the next AG. That is NOT going to be good.

I’m glad to see Holder go, but what would make me VERY happy is to see him indicted on all the felonies he has either been in a conspiracy to commit, has committed, or ordered others to commit. I HIGHLY doubt that’ll ever happen this side of eternity, but one can always hope regardless.

  27. Put me down for guarded optomism. I want to see what comes after Holder. Your not going to get NY & NJ permit issues settled until you start explaining how Racist, Sexist & Homophobic for the rich white rulling class, they are and the conflicting politics of those issue weigh on the poltical classes.

  30. Yes, the smell of justice is in the air, but look at what we are celebrating. We are thankful that an innocent woman, who told the truth, took responsibility to defend herself and her family, and followed the Second Amendment by bearing arms, is going to be treated leniently by one of the original thirteen states. That is a very low standard of “justice.” I think the Founding Fathers would tar and feather Jim McClain. This man does not have the heart of an American. I also believe the Founding Fathers would say that Ben Franklin was right; once the people learn that they can vote themselves money out of the treasury, the Republic is imperiled.

Centuries ago many countries started to get rid of their kings because they were corrupt. Our government is “of the people, by the people, for the people.” Now “the people” have become corrupt, and their voting record shows it. Maybe corruption will be the undoing of Republican forms of government as it undid the monarchies of the past. My predictions are usually wrong, and I hope I am wrong now as well.

  32. Ms. Allen is probably out of jeopardy primarily because there is an election in a little over a month and the Demonrats don’t want any more trouble than they already have.

As for Holder, although he is clearly guilty of several crimes, he will never be punished for any of them. If worse comes to worst Obama will just pardon him as he walks out the door of the White House.

I’m sure that in an ideal Obama world, Holder would be his first choice for the Supremes. But with the Senate headed for Republican control and Holder’s record of abuse of the Constitution souring even Dem support, it’s doubtful. But then again I didn’t think Americans were stupid enough to elect Clinton once, let alone twice.

Ginsburg is adamant about not retiring but there is some rumbling behind the scenes about trying to convince her to step down and allow Obama another appointment.

Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren perhaps? I hope not, I’m really looking forward to a knock down, drag out fight between her and Hillary for the Dem nomination. That one will leave blood and hair on the walls.
