I heard that the prosecutor’s office in New Jersey, after some gentle guidance from the NJ State Attorney General’s Office, has decided to put Shaneen Allen into a diversion program instead of taking her to a political show trial.  It’s good to see common sense prevail.  Congratulations to attorney Evan Nappen, who guided her through it, and to all those of you who supported this young woman who didn’t realize she was committing a victimless crime.

And, Eric Holder announced today, he is retiring as Attorney General of the United States.

Somewhere behind her blindfold, Lady Justice must be smiling.

  1. WHile I certainly do not wish Ms. Allen any additional hardship in the courts, an opportunity to rid NJ of some vile restrictions via judge or jury nullification has been lost. I suspect intentional action by the state AG, footstomping the local prosecuter to avoid any such risk.

Or I could just be seeing Elvis and Aliens….

  5. I just wrote a “thank you” letter to John Jay Hoffman, the Attorney General of the state of New Jersey. He is the one who tried to talk some sense into Jim McClain, the prosecutor/persecutor of Shaneen Allen. I handwrote it on heavy-duty paper and mailed it in a 9″X12″ manila envelope, so I wouldn’t have to fold it. I hope I made a good impression.

  7. Am I the only one to think that if she had been white, then no “common sense” decision would have occurred?
