I hope you all and your kids and grandkids have a safe and happy Halloween.

But that’s not the season I’m talking about.

I just got my voting done early, and I urge all of you to make your vote count in the mid-term election only a few days away.  Yeah, pundits are talking about a Republican sweep and a Republican-majority  Senate that would be good news for gun owners…but I’m not nearly so sure of that as some.  Neither are some folks over at Breitbart: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/10/29/T-Minus-6-GOP-Fights-to-Escape-Margin-of-Fraud .

Please get out there and vote.  It’s more important than usual this time.

  1. As most people know, Illinois is probably the most corrupt and fraudulent state in the union, especially when it comes to elections. When you talk about zombies, you ought to see the fellows leave the cemeteries and go vote.

This year is going to be especially fraudulent, usually, except that the state legislature made it legal. For this vote on Tuesday and only THIS election, for the first time in my memory a person will be able to go to one window and register then move to the next window and vote. They claim that it is only to see what problems may arise, kind of a trial balloon, don’t you see. Prior to this, I believe, you had to be registered 60 days before the election. I can see the buses now, lining up in certain neighborhoods to take them to the polls. Of course all at the beneficence of the Democrat party. Of course the people will be instructed how to vote properly.

Our State Attorney General has never prosecuted a political corruption case. It takes a Federal Prosecutor to do that. Did I forget to mention that the Attorney General is the daughter of the house speaker, the real power in the state. Shazam, I think I might be onto something.

Sometimes I think the founding fathers had it right, have a poll tax. Why should people that don’t pay much in the way of taxes be able to vote when we are already taxed to death? We have politicians that will make more in retirement than they ever made while working.

A large union just donated $30,000 to a Libertarian candidate for Governor that has no chance of winning, but they hope to draw votes from the Republican candidate.
Kind of reminds me of the last episode of the Sopranos, it just goes ON and ON.

  3. Several of my friends have started the victory celebration months early. I am not wildly optimistic that conservatives will rule the day in January. We need EVERY conservative vote, every one if we stand a chance of getting the House and Senate. This is not time to party, it’s time to vote then watch the returns. It would be heart breaking to lose either Chamber by a narrow (voters who were overconfident and stayed at home) margin.

  6. We voted last week but as has been reported, the new mail in voting procedure here in Colorado seems to guarantee voter fraud. We shall see, but as was shown in the movie “Ricky Mountain Heist” there is a continuing Progressive effort to turn Colorado into a blue state by any means, fair or foul…

  8. I will be voting on election day next week. However, one wonders if their vote will really go to the candidate(s) they want, especially conservative ones.

I would not be surprised if liberals in America have hired foreign hackers in China and Russia to help them switch votes for Republicans to sleazy Democrats in computerized machines. The more modernized we get, the easier it is for evildoers to mess us up, even from long distance or outside the country.

Because we now depend so much on computers and electronics for our finances, power distribution, transportation, utilities, etc. hackers or an electro-magnetic pulse aka EMP, either man made or natural can put us back into the dark ages within days. Hostile foreign governments will benefit greatly if Democrats are kept in power in America so they can destroy our nation from within as they have done over the past several decades and especially in the last six years.

I’m all for every voting age American adult to have and show a voter ID card and other forms of identification before they are allowed into polling places. It’s more important to have security in our votes than convenience so I would prefer the old machines using cards which takes longer to count up, but is more difficult to commit fraud with than computers which evil geeks can hack. I believe making it less convenient to vote will also weed out the less desirable, low information voters who tend to be lazy and stay at home collecting government assistance instead of contributing to our nation’s progress. In my humble opinion, not all Americans should be allowed to vote, only those who are responsible, pay taxes, and contribute to society. Parasites will always vote for those who promise and give them free stuff, at the expense of those who work.

  10. A more timely and important statement could not be made. Thanks Mas, for helping to spread the word.

Even though my family and I live in a solid Red State, we are ALL heading to the polls on Tuesday. Now I’m not naive enough to think a Republican sweep will fix everything. But we must make a solid statement that can’t be ignored.

Even if you live in a hopelessly Blue state, DON’T STAY AT HOME! Make your voice heard, even if it just a whisper in a windstorm.

  14. @ Randy. I’ve thought about running for school board on the Libertarian ticket if I am still in Texas in two years. I’ve had encouragement from two Republican school board members and one Democrat who lost in the last election.

My main reason for writing is that, here in Texas, we will be using voter id for the first time. I have cut a snippet from the DPS website giving the requirements. They have been setting up mobile locations to assure that those who are eligible to vote have proper id. Note that CHL is an acceptable form of id (* is my emphasis, not theirs).

    This requirement is effective immediately.
Here is a list of the acceptable forms of photo ID:
Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
*Texas concealed handgun license issued by DPS
United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
    United States passport

Regardless of the election results, a lot of us expect this election to be tied up in court for several years. We do have several contentious elections and I expect a pretty high turnout for this mid-term election.

On the pleasant side, I’ll be at home, for a change, and will just walk across the road to our local elementary school and vote. It will feel good to vote “old style” this year after having to vote absentee for so many years due to my job.

  16. Arkansas has had a voter ID requirement since 1980 at least, when I first voted here. January 01, 2014, they amended that to additionally require a state-issued photo ID.

There have been three elections since then, and I’ve presented my Arkanas Concealed Handgun Carry License each time. The first two times the ladies behind the counter had never seen one before, and checked to make sure it was OK. Last week, the lady said, “Oh, so that’s what they look like! I’ve been thinking about getting one of those,” and we chatted about the fee and training requirements until a voting machine became available.

Polling places are no-carry zones in Arkansas, but I figure every little bit for RKBA helps…

  18. WHEN you vote (hint, hint) also take the time and double, TRIPLE check that your vote is actually going to your chosen candidate.
Reports of fraud aside, mistakes can happen.

  21. Tommy S.— I have nothing against the Libertarian Party, if that is what you thought. In a state wide election, especially Illinois, a Libertarian doesn’t have much chance. In a local election the chances are much better, but the Democrats and Republicans will gang up on anyone other than the “chosen ones”.

A favorite method to throw someone off the ballot is to object to their petitions as not being kosher. Fraudulent signatures, signatures by people not registered to vote and even if the pages were held together by a paper clip instead of being stapled, improper addresses and so on are used as reasons to remove a candidate from the ballot . We had 500,000 signatures (only 400,000 were needed) to change the law dealing with the way the state’s district boundaries are redrawn after a census. The Democrats attacked the signatures with a gaggle of lawyers and had them thrown out. So we are still stuck with gerrymandering. Need I mention that the State’s Supreme Court Judges do not get on the bench unless they are approved by the House Speaker, Michael Madigan?

Our favorite U.S. Senator, Dick Dursban, has a wife that is a registered lobbyist. But we all know that there is no conflict of interest— right? By the way Dursban is a herbicide that farmers use.

I’ll be voting with my wife on Tuesday. Our polling place is what they call a Grange Hall. This is where the farmers used to get together to discuss the weather and the oil they use in their tractors:) Creaky wood floors, a stage at the end of the building and I don’t believe it is handicap accessible. This is also where they held the hoedown on Friday nights.

  23. Mas is so right – the only thing that positively guarantees defeat is apathy. VOTE, people! The importance of this election has not been exaggerated – it is truly a make or break moment for our 2nd Amendment rights.

  27. There are a number of quotes that come to mind regarding our need to stand together, and vote each and every time we have the chance:

Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. – John Stuart Mill, 1867

The world is in greater peril from those who tolerate or encourage evil than from those who actually commit it. – Albert Einstein (in his tribute to Pablo Casals, 1953)

When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle. – Edmund Burke, 1770

“The universe tends towards chaos and entropy – it takes effort and energy to maintain order and stability. Any system will eventually break down and fail if you do not actively apply energy and effort to keep it functioning correctly. That’s physics, son, but it applies to everything in life and society.” – Brian Ward, 1984 (a high school science teacher, talking to our class about the privilege and responsibility of voting. They don’t make many teachers like him these days.)

Go vote. If you don’t exercise your right to vote, you don’t have the right to complain about who gets to run the country.

  29. All Oregon elections are vote by mail. I sent in my ballot last Friday.

Last week I read about 2 states that have early voting where the voting machines registered what were supposed to be Republican votes as Democrat. Both cases were attributed as “calibration errors”. Yeah sure you betcha.
