We’ve known since the Ma’alot Massacre that the answer to mass murder of the helpless was good people right there at ground zero who are armed and can immediately respond to the attack.  In recent days, we’ve seen two graphic examples of this.

In the attack on the synagogue, only one security person was injured and no innocents hurt because armed security immediately opened fire on the animal who attacked with explosives and a rifle.

Casualties were minimized – one innocent victim killed, two more wounded – when ROTC students counterattacked the gunman who had entered the “gun-free school.”  One of those students was armed with a pocket knife and used it, as one spokesperson said, to render the attacker no longer alive.

Read the excellent book “First 30 Seconds” by leading authority on the topic Ed Monk. Just as a defibrillator right there when a heart attack strikes saves the lives of good people, so does a deadly weapon right there which can be deployed by the good people to stop the evil people.

If one of those ROTC students had been allowed to carry a gun, the fanatical murderer might have been neutralized before he could murder the teacher and wound two more innocent victims.

  1. Not sure of the ages of the ROTC students but if they were under 21 they would have been disqualified for that reason as well. 18-21 year old people may enlist in the military but not buy handguns from a FFL nor get a CCW in Virginia. Further, if the knife used by the ROTC student had a blade >3 inches that would have be prohibited as well. Waiting to see the the ROTC student will be prosecuted or disciplined by the University. Probably not but Norfolk does have a Soros prosecutor. The prosecutor seems to be inclined to blame Republicans generically rather than the ROTC student specifically.

  2. As many of my great instructors have taught me: Always “Be Alert”, “Be Ready”, and
    “Stay Safe” ‼️

  3. A hearty AMEN. Some back, at another Virginia College, a school employee/student managed to race to his vehicle and retrieve a handgun to solve a similar issue. No can do these days unless you’re sitting in your car on campus (to pick up someone) with the gun.

  4. I strongly concur with Mas’ assessment! Ed Monk’s book is an important source in the crusade to reduce the “security theatre” of gun-free zones.

Only last week I gave a copy of Ed Monk’s book to my niece, who is a middle school math teacher. She is an exceptionally intelligent young lady and she surprised me by being already aware of the foolishness of traditional school measures that merely huddle victims together to make the mass-murderer’s task easier. Hopefully, I can only get her interested in shooting regularly!

I love Monk’s point that he is not seeking to arm teachers; rather he merely wants to stop the state from disarming them.

Florida already allows schools to arm teachers–if the local school board will authorize such a program. Unfortunately, the Pinellas County School Board has not chosen to take that step, yet. But, I have hope that this will change.

The whole gun-free-school-zone concept increases rather than decreases the risk of mass school shootings. Gun-free zones are akin to drilling holes in the bottom of a sinking rowboat in the hope that this will allow the water to run out faster.

  5. One added thought: At some point someone will sue the owner/operator of a gun-free-zone for injury sustained as an unarmed victim of felonious attack, on the basis that since the gun-free-zone deprived the victim of his/her natural right to self-defense, the owner/operator of the zone has effectively taken on an added burden of providing the protection that was denied to the victim.

Here, I am thinking of stores and restaurants in states like South Carolina that post force-of-law “no firearms” signs. Florida has a much more sensical approach that balances the right of private property owners to deny access to firearm-bearing customers, but dos not allow this to be done with a sign. Instead, property owners must verbally inform the potential customer on an individual basis. The effect in Florida is that 99.999% of lawful concealed weapon carriers come and go at Florida businesses with no problems and no-one is even aware. Such signage in South Carolina businesses is just one more example of “security theatre”.

I wish more lawful concealed carriers in states with “force-of-law” signage provisions would stick their heads in the door of businesses with such signage and politely tell the staff that this particular law-abiding citizen would have stopped there to shop or eat, but cannot due to the sign. No animus expressed–you just thought they’d like to know. Lost business can change minds, but only if the proprietor is aware of the loss.

  6. Mr. Monk tells it like it is, I have the book. Mas, the Synagogue attack you’re talking about has the makings of a future Ayoob Files installment too.

  7. Recently we have had multiple attacks committed by radical Muslim terrorists yet the Democrats and the legacy media say hardly anything about them. Does anyone think that would be the same if even one of the attacks was committed by the white, male, Christian boogeyman they always warn about?

    • Correct. Once in a while, I still hear them bring up the January 6th, 2021 riot. I’m surprised they don’t keep reminding us about the Murrah Federal building bombing in Oklahoma City .

The Republican voters have been well-behaved considering all the hatred that has been directed at us. If Republicans were truly racists, the first black President would have been assassinated. Instead, he won two terms.

Yes, yes. Watch out for those dangerous white supremacists Joe Biden warned us about!

  8. Notice how none of these attacks happen in the area of the armed anti gun lawmakers secured areas ! Imagine that.

  9. Sorry all.

I will not read a book that uses the term “active shooter”.

To my mind, it paints regular gun owners in a negative light. There are other reasonably accurate terms that can be used (e.g., spree killer, armed assailant).

I realize that I’m shoveling sand against the tide, but I don’t care.

    • The Left calls the tune, and we dance to it.

Let me tell you about the time I got mad at Ben Shapiro. It was when the Left claimed there are multiple genders, and genders can switch. Ben spent two minutes doing a fantastic job of rebutting their arguments with facts, mostly scientific facts. In my mind I said, “Great job, Ben. Now, this topic is NOT WORTHY of more discussion, so leave it, and go on to something more important.” No, Ben proceeded to go on and on, as though this topic was worthy of further discussion. See, the Left sets the agendas we all talk about. They are leading us around by the nose. They lead. We follow. We do a great job constructing excellent arguments, but often, we lose the battle over the issue. We are well-educated, but we can’t DO anything. I realize that, and I am also doing nothing.

  10. I bought this book when you mentioned it previously. I agree with Carl Crisp, it should be required reading. Additionally, “The Gift of Fear” by Gavin de Becker and “Trail Safe” by Michael Bane are two other books I highly recommend.
