While I’ve been running to the doctor and getting lab work done to get over the acute diverticulitis I’ve sprung up with, Will’s been busy doing most of my chores and working on the stud walls of our new barn.

Will-working
Previously, he cut lumber with our handy-dandy HudSon bandsaw mill and now he’s putting it together. After he gets the west wall done, I think he plans on sawing one-inch board and batten siding for it. (Yes, the stud walls will have a horizontal member between the sill plate and top plate to fasten the vertical siding to.)

Meanwhile, I’ve learned a lot about diverticulitis, inflammation of little pockets that have formed in the intestine. Yuck! But, luckily, my doctor told me that after all my symptoms are gone, I will be able to eat most of the homestead foods I did before, including veggies and whole wheat bread. I’m still in some pain and kind of nauseous because of the heavy-duty sulfa and other meds. I’m hoping that’ll pass too. I want to get back at canning! — Jackie

  1. Margie,

Thanks for your tips. What brand of aloe vera juice do you use? And what is Dr Christopher’s Infection and where can you get it?

  2. Bad, bad diverticulitis. I have it too and it’s not fun; but controlled as much as possible. Aloe Vera Juice (I have a special brand that works great) has really helped me a LOT. I also take Marshmallow Root for the inflammation. When I have a flare up I use Dr Christopher’s Infection several times a day for up to a week and have avoided having to take antibiotics for quite awhile. Have a couple flare ups a year. Take care of yourself. The barn looks great and all of your life is wonderful. Keep it up.

  3. zelda,

Will’s been a carpenter since he was a boy. His dad was an enthusiastic homesteader and he grew up with it. Will taught carpentry as well in a homebuilders’ program so he’s really, really handy and artistic too. I appreciate him and his work SO very much! I’m not sure how he does it, myself. Maybe it’s the good food???
Yep,I’m doing better every day and am finally getting back some strength. Whew!

  4. The barn is amazing. It’s huge. Where did Will learn all those skills? I couldn’t guess where to start. And how does he find the strength day after day to keep doing that work. Amazing.
Hope you are doing well and your treatment is effective.

  5. This is a great looking barn….both practical and beautiful. I too had a bout with my diverticulitis after Thanksgiving dinner – we ate at our friends home this year. 99% of the time I am fine eating my organic/GMO free home cooked foods. Its only eating out or at another cooks house that I have trouble. Chocolate is a troublesome thing too. Good luck on getting your’s settled down too. I use Reiki healing on my body…no drugs for me. 6. I have enjoyed the photos of the barn. I like the idea of adding the rocks to the sidewall for added accent. Hope your feeling better soon! Your an inspiration to many! Best Wishes!
