Canning processed cheese

A friend gave me a large can of processed cheddar cheese and I would like to can it in small jars. Do I need to heat this cheese before I put it in the jars and can I do this in a water bath or would it be better to pressure can it?

Great gift! Yes, you need to heat the cheese. What I do is set the open can in my oven at 200 degrees until the cheese is hot all the way through. Then I ladle it out into hot, sterilized jars, leaving 1/2 inch of headspace. I process my cheese sauce in a boiling water bath canner for 90 minutes. It comes out wonderful and is so handy! — Jackie

  1. I’ve never done this, but I did see a recipe for dandelion honey. It might be what you’re looking for. I saw the recipe on the internet and you can probably find it too.
