Yes, we did need the rain. But with torrential rain, we also had our phones exploding with tornado warnings while we watched nasty black/green clouds rolling up very quickly. No, we didn’t go to the basement. However, we sure were keeping an eye on the sky in all directions! The trees were whipping ferociously while rain poured off our roof as if several fire hoses were deploying water up there. Our solar panels were swinging and rocking in the heavy gusts. All the while, I was praying we wouldn’t get the golf ball sized hail some were seeing further west of us.

Fortunately, the storm passed and we heard of smaller tornadoes touching the ground north and south of us. Power was out in both Cook, our closest small town, and Virginia, 25 miles to the southeast. Of course, with us being off grid, our power wasn’t out. But we lost internet connection and my phone quit “except for emergency calls” for quite a while.
Well, it looks like we’ll be adopting our new dog-child soon. We’re due to get her on July 11th. MAD Rescue volunteers from Ohio to Wisconsin will be taking turns driving her northwest from Ohio to the Wisconsin Dells, where we’re going to meet Glitch. She’s a year-old Dutch Shepherd who was rescued in Texas, after being dumped on the streets. Her foster “mom” has sent us lots of pictures and we think she’ll make a wonderful new family member.

Today, we’re just kind of cruising through the gardens, checking the progress (or lack of it) of our plants and seeds. Both of us are sore from working several days in a row on hard projects. I think I’m going to do laundry and dishes to take it a little easy. We plan on going down to spend the Fourth of July with son, Bill and his family, plus David and his family, and Randie, our daughter, for a barbecue and get together.

Bill has started taking lessons on their Friesian, Abe. He, as a youngster, used to show horses and is enjoying getting a warm-up and getting back into the horse world. It’s something he and Ava can do together. — Jackie

With the weather you were seeing (storms and all) I want to say “welcome to TX”. Several years ago, my daughter came home dragging a guy. He had been through hurricanes in FL and he found a TX storm to be worse (he was hunkering down about to mess his self while my daughter and I were “what’s the big deal?”.
As to “Glitch”……. these groups that partner together to get a dog from point A to point B (with many drivers!) are great! We need more of that type of stuff. Hope he fits in. So great that you have a spot for him!
Glitch is a girl, not a him. Yep, we’ll sure be welcoming her with open arms. I’m so grateful for the volunteers who will be helping bring her home.
So glad you are ok, this weather is so unpredictable now, hopefully your gardens are too. Congrats on getting Glitch! We and are family all are ‘adopt don’t shop’ people when we get pets too. My DH is doing great after surgery last week, Praise the Lord!
I’m so grateful your husband is doing well after his surgery!! We adopted our two cats, one thrown away in a ditch and the other about to get shot as a kitten, if they didn’t give her away. Hondo, too, was a gift from God through our friends. If they hadn’t saved him, he would have also met a sad end.
I’m really glad you have your blog!
Even though I read about the weather. It’s nice to hear about people writing back to you. I guess it’s hot everywhere. I pray that nobody gets over heated.
Early morning and late evening work now 😊.
Glitch is a nice looking dog. She’s got a good home now. How are your two cats 🐈 doing? You don’t mention them hardly at all nor your dogs.
I’m glad Bill and Ava are enjoying the horses together!
Have a Happy 4th of July celebration 🎉!
Take care
Our dogs and cats are fine. I guess I don’t mention them as much in the summer as we’re so busy in the gardens. Both Hondo and Sarge go with us to the gardens and Mittens goes along to the Sand Garden as it’s not far from the house. She wants to make sure we’re doing everything right. She’s the boss.
Happy Fourth of July to you too. Stay cool.
We had our storms and damage 2 weeks ago. We’ve been getting contractor bids on a machine damaged in the wind. It took several days to clean up all the trees. I happy you came through without apparent problems. Hail is a miserable occurrence and we do avoided that. Now it is HOT! I wilt when I work in the gardens. Enjoy July 4th and family.
We were very lucky. Very few trees down and none where it would bother. I hate hail. We had our garden ruined completely once when we lived in New Mexico. Not a thing left! Yep, it’s hot here too and I’m not good in the heat. I try to work in the morning and late afternoon/evening when it’s cooler.
Have a happy Fourth!!
We hit mid 90’s here today. PLUS humidity. We are being threatened by triple digit.
What a storm! Praise The Lord you weren’t hurt by. So many people are experiencing the Heat! No let up. We cooled down to the high 40 at night but forecast is saying back to upper 90s. What a beautiful face on your new family/farm dog. People who dump their animals…… crying shame. Peas are nearly over Tomatoes are finally showing signs of growth Garden is sporadic here. Hopefully I will be able to raise enough to fill the pantry. Bill an Ava look Great on their mounts Nice to see them enjoying together.
Believe me, we were very thankful we didn’t get hit by really bad stuff. And the heat!! Holy cow, what crazy weather all over the country.
We love Glitch’s face too. I could kick people right in the behind for dumping innocent dogs!!
I think everyone’s gardens are sporadic this year; too hot, too much rain, not enough rain, etc.
Good you didn’t get hit with hail or a tornado…some bad weather this spring all around us. Enjoy your new dog and a lucky dog to get adopted by you and Will.
Happy 4th of July to you and your family !
Sue
There have been some nasty storms in the Midwest this year – 173 confirmed in IL (late June) count which is double our normal for a year. We’ve only had hail from the one storm in April but winds (high winds the other day with some rain) has half of my garlic leaning over.
We’ve not lost power for more than a few minutes during any storm/high winds. And yes it is stinking hot and humid here but *only* 106 heat index.
Not sure what is up with the potatoes – some are flowering and it looks like maybe Japanese beetles leaving holes in the leaves?
Heads up – traffic around the Dells this time of the year is Awful (I’ve never understood the lure of the Dells lol). It is about a 2 hour drive from my place. Enjoy the new member of your family.
Thanks for the tip on traffic by the Dells. We’ll try to meet at a rest area or somewhere a little less hectic.
Boy, it’s hot here too. I think the heat is stirring up the severe weather patterns. We’re praying for the folks fighting and affected by the Colorado wildfires, which are not helped by the heat and wind.
I can’t wait until Glitch comes home. I think the other dogs will love her too.
I’m so glad you didn’t get any damage especially the hail. That cloud looked really bad but thank goodness you just got heavy rain and wind.
It’s hot down here 94° with a heat index of 111°!
The cats are all layed out in front of the fans and I am working outside then coming in for cool water, homemade lemonade 🍋 and ice tea.
Yes it was deer getting the tomatoes 🍅, putting fence up tomorrow. Right up in the yard. I guess I will have to do it to protect my food- like they don’t have enough to eat!
Am so thankful you are safe and sound.
Thanks for your concern. We really watch the weather as it affects our gardens so much. And we sure don’t want to miss seeing a tornado coming! It’s hotter than blazes right now so I hope our last-planted, replanted sweet corn pops right up.
Yep, the deer sure do love garden produce! They eat tomatoes just like apples. Have you ever made green tomato apple pie? You just slice up the hard, green tomatoes like apples (unpeeled) and pretend they’re apples, using your regular recipe. It’s very good!
