But guess what? It’s in the high 90’s with high humidity now and for the next 10 days, supposedly! No rain in sight either. Whew! When you have an off-grid house, keeping cool is a struggle. We do have a small, window AC unit that Will put in yesterday. But it’s small and our house is medium sized. So, it doesn’t really cool it off but a few degrees. Will and Hondo go down to the basement, where he has a chair to sit in. Hondo lies on the cool floor. It’s 50 down there so they’re nice and comfortable.
On Saturday, we drove 8 hours down to the Wisconsin Dells to meet and pick up our new dog. Glitch, now named Gypsy as a glitch is a mistake and she sure isn’t that. She was transported up pony-express style, by volunteers for the Malinois and Dutch Shepherd Rescue (MAD), through which we adopted her. These wonderful people brought her all the way from Dayton, Ohio, making a one-day trip. I took our new girl for a potty walk while Will and Becky, the last gal in the transport team, unloaded her stuff (her foster mom sent her food, toys, a blanket, heartworm meds, etc. with her). Poor Gypsy was so scared of everything. Now she’s settling in and learning the ropes. Such a sweet, loving girl! She’s already learned to trot next to our solar powered golf cart and is in love with me. She even gives hugs!
Now folks, on a different note, everyone pay attention, especially those who may have emailed me! My email got hacked by someone impersonating me, saying I had fallen and “broken my femur” and needed surgery. The next email “I” sent was asking if folks shopped at Amazon, etc. Giant Red Flag! NO, I HAVE NOT BROKEN MY LEG AND I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NEVER ASK ABOUT WHERE ANYONE SHOPPED OR ASK FOR MONEY OR GIFT CARDS, ETC. NEVER!

We got 7.5 inches of rain from the 9-11 and an inch yesterday. It’s hot here too 99 ° heat index and more hot weather coming in next week.
The rest of July is supposed to be wet. Then August cooler and drier and boy! I can’t wait!
Maybe I can get some cucumbers planted and pray they will make before our first frost.

Hot? Get a battery powered giant fan (the type that contractors use) and sit in front of the cooling breeze. That is what we do (90+ degree heat here and no AC).

Awww. She looks so sweet. What a lucky girl to live with you. I share your joy. Our rescue, fourteen year old DeeDee is fitting in with our dog, Cooper, the five cats and the barnyard critters. She loves her newfound outdoor freedom. She has even chewed the front door knob trying to get back out there. Smart! But then, she also chewed the exterior knob trying to get back in! Haha. We love her anyway.
Watching news re forest fires and hoping you are beyond the danger zone. Its a scary time. Sorry about the scam issue. Our local hospital just sent letters to nearly all patients, telling them they had been involved in an issue like that and all were offered a credit monitoring service. Another annoyance!

Northern MN has been on the news lately with its high temps and now a dozen fires up in the Boundary Waters area. Plus, much of US with floods or fires, and then those of us who garden are in messes too with poor production. Craziness!
Has anyone else noticed an absence of barn swallows this year? They are welcome here every spring, but didn’t finish building, just disappeared. In asking around, it seems other people are missing some too.
We are sweltering too; the garden only gets attention for a few hours in the morning.

We’re a day behind you re: 97 temps – who knows what the heat index will be – there are a lot of corn fields near us and corn sweats. Corn knee high by the 4th of July is more like almost 5 ft high by the 4th of July.
Dogs and cats have excellent judgement of character. She already trusts you, much like the kittens (and other cats and a couple of dogs) we took in. She was rescued, had a foster family, and how is in her fur-ever home. And she knows it.
I need to find where I put the cooling unit the kids got me – goes around your neck when you’re working outside. We need to dig garlic and the one tater plant that has died off. But first better half is going to take advantage of ready-to-burn-once-split oak from a neighbor – helping neighbor clean up the mess the prior owner (eco-terrorist) left. Will have us flush with firewood is all I can say (in this heat lol).
We got the hackers email too but was suspicious of it. Figured any news about a broken femur would appear in your blog and not a private email to us. But remember, if you ever need help let us know, through the blog. There are plenty of people that would help you at a drop of a hat.

This is what I hate about MS and most tech companies – you will be lucky to even talk to a human. Perhaps those on this forum who use social media can post about this cretin. Posting on FB, Twitter, Instagram tends to get attention from companies as they pay people to watch for negative posts.
Or perhaps a white hat person will engage his/her circle to flood the bogus accounts.

Here in Copper Basin Alaska we were sweltering in 75 to 80 degree the last three days (90’s in wide outnumbered hoop houses and green house). Today. It’s showers and 57 at 1 PM! Your dog looks great! My dog, Denali, who is 13 has been snuggling me all morning. Hope you all keep as cool as possible! At least it’s not full blown canning season; can it or loose it!

They actually sent me the email address for someone that you supposedly wanted to have me send a $200 gift card to, and I looked at that and thought, I don’t think Jackie sent this. So I was feeling guilty about not doing something for you and I was scrolling my email when I saw this email, explaining this
whole thing. So, you didn’t fall, and you are ok? Thank goodness if that’s true. I would help

I HATE hackers!!! No, I didn’t break my leg nor fall. And I would NEVER ask for anything, let alone a $200 gift card. So where did they want you to send it anyway? I sure would like to track them down! They emailed tons of people and I have no way of knowing who. I’ve sent and received thousands of emails even in the last year. Geez!
My employer “tests” us regularly on scam emails. Proud to say I’ve always identified 100% of them as scams.
And I dislike the term hacker – hack is to write computer code which is *not* what these cretins are doing. Scammers, thieves, crooks are what they are.
If anyone gets an email/text that doesn’t seem quite right, do your due diligence. You could email or call BHM in this case. *Never* click a link and do not panic. Scammers do their best to strike fear in your heart.

Hackers are awful! My cousin had that happen too. I’ve heard on the news how much money they steal, and that there are often foreign warehouses full of trafficked people that are forced to scam innocent people. Such evil!

Yep, that’s what we’re doing here, too. God has gotten an earful lately, I think. I absolutely hate the thought that someone may have fallen for that scheme and bought gift cards, which is what they eventually asked for. In my name!!! I hate that|!!
I got that hacked email and sent you a condolence email. Sorry to hear you were hacked but glad no fracture. It seems everyone is getting “hacked” on the internet. We never had air conditioning for years. It seems the weather is warming up. I work in the gardens early and quit after a couple hours. I’m now enjoying a homegrown meal-hamburger/raw onio, broccoli, green beans. I listened to a podcast about the inflation with groceries. Prices are going up. We will all have to adapt physically and financially. Enjoy your new “companion”.
It’s so hot we can barely work outside at all. I went out and tilled a vacant spot in the Wolf Garden and by the time I came home, the sweat was pouring off me. I met Will at the house. He’d been in the Sand Garden, weeding melons and couldn’t continue. We’re praying this heat will move on and rain will come. It is sadly needed in the gardens and for the many forest fires in the not-to-close area. I really feel for firefighters, trying to work in this heat. It’s nearly impossible!!
Groceries are going sky high daily. There’s no way I’m paying $3.99 a pound for apples. Heck, one weighs nearly a pound!! Just an example. My store-bought yogurt and cottage cheese are suddenly more liquid and containers are smaller too. Plus going up daily.
Amen to email hacks. I get the regularly from our “pastor”.
