What every well-equipped home should have
Greetings from the Pacific North(very)Wet! And thanks for being patient. As Joel has been posting, I made it to my destination, but am currently sans Internet. So what little blogging I can do (between hauling trash, unpacking, and painting the insides of kitchen cabinets before putting my stuff away) will be sporadic for a while. Stick with me, please …
Thanks for all the good wishes and offers of help. You have no idea how great it felt, after the crappy start of my journey, to know I had friends waiting along the road. As it turned out, the final three days were completely uneventful (except for the runaway horse galloping down the highway at the top of a winding 10,000-foot pass, but that’s a tale for another time). A couple of the days were very long, as I made up lost time. But no complaints. I’m here!
Now … as to “what every well-equipped home should have” … I mentioned previously that the folks I bought the house from had an unexpected lot in common with me (and probably with you). Well, the above photo shows just a few of the items I’ve found so far in my house-cleaning: A wall-mounted copy of the Bill of Rights, a postcard from Pacific Yurts, old copies of The American Survival Guide, and — last but not least! — back issues of Backwoods Home. There are also gun publications galore and even a catalog from the Militia of Montana.
Yep, I guess I’m home. :-)
More when my body and brain have recovered and when I have better access and more time to get on the ‘Net.

Ah, American Survival Guide. My first magazine, picked up on a whim in a gas station in Colorado, that opened my eyes to the real world, and who I really was! Kept that copy for years and year and years. Finally lost it in one of our many moves.

Actually I prefer the Virginia Declaration of Rights
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Declaration_of_Rights, which, along with L. Neil’s definition of libertarianism, encompasses a great deal — the D of I, B of R, and any “Constitution” one may wish to write.

I wonder how many of your old (little) houses would fit in this new one? LOL……enjoy the space, enjoy the green again, and you eventually will get it all cleaned/arranged so it’s “completely yours”……

Your copy of the Bill of Rights is a copy of the Resolution from the first congress submitting the proposed articles. It’s a great and important part of history because it a) provided the purpose of the Bill of Rights, and ) how the BoRs operate.
“…expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictice clauses should be added…”
Therein, is what the people believed they were doing and giving their assent to.

Hmmm….. I hate to speak for Claire, but if I had to guess as to where she got the wall copy of the Bill of Rights, I’d have to say it must be here at the NRA store:

You get four documents of freedom (Constitution, BofR, Declaration of Independance and the 2nd Amendment) all ready to hang for $34.95. I know from her posts she is such an ardent supporter of the NRA, I just can’t see here looking elsewhere. Especially knowing part of the purchase price goes to supporting the NRA :-)

I got that wall-mounted copy of the Bill of Rights by finding it in the house, where the sellers left it for me. :-) But I wouldn’t be at all surprised, G.W.F., if it originally came from the NRA. Also found copies of American Rifleman around the place. So the sellers were definitely NRAites. That thing’s been around a while, though. Somebody hand-wrote the date 1976 on the back. Perhaps a U.S. bicentennial purchase?
