Books, books, books, not to mention actual reality

Okay, patient people. With some luck your patience might soon pay off and I’ll be back to regular blogging. Friday, I’m scheduled — for the second time — to get Internet at home.

That’s the good news. The bad news is … it’s via Comcast. And opinions on Comcast (oh, thank you, G.W.F.) are so very cheery. However, Comcast was my only alternative. So there it is. If all comes together as hoped, you should see more of me after Monday.

And here’s more in the patience-will-be-rewarded category: By October, I should have two new books out!

One you know about. Backwoods Home should be publishing my Hardyville story-column compilation. I’m guessing when I say October. But it’ll be soon.

The other … well, that one was news even to me until a week ago. The good people at Paladin Press (who took over my titles from Loompanics when that late, great publisher closed its doors) out of the blue asked me if I could put something together for them in very short order. Like, something they could publish before the November elections. Something … er, about good citizenship.

I said, “You sure you want me to write about good citizenship? You’re not mixing me up with somebody else? You know, somebody who actually is a good citizen?”

But nope. Donna and Peder at Paladin knew exactly what they wanted. And I’ll do my best to give it to them, and you. So look for The Bad Attitude Guide to Good Citizenship around mid-October. It will consist, in part, of a compilation of my S.W.A.T. magazine columns — none of which have ever appeared anywhere other than in the printed magazine — and in part of new material, with a few bits adapted from my bloggery.

But now, it’s back to de-cobwebbing my new old house while the roofing guy scrapes moss off the shakes and rids the roof of decades of other strange excrescences …

Good thing the blog doesn’t have sound. Panting and drooling! By Oct I may even be wiggling and squeaking. Keep us posted please for a book bomb date or some such event.

  2. Joel Says:

    Very cool, Claire! Congratulations!

  3. -s Says:

Excrescences? Definitely a contender for vocabulary of the day.

  4. Ellendra Says:

    Hurray for books!!

  5. A.G. Says:

Shelf space has been allocated :)

  6. Bill St. Clair Says:

Yay! I’ll even stoop to dead trees for “The Bad Attitude Guide to Good Citizenship”. I read books on my iPhone these days, when possible.

  7. Beth Says:

Love that badass title! Wonderful news. Felicitations!

  8. G.W.F. Says:

Claire, congratulations on the new books. I look forward to them. I do hope your experience with Comcast is better than mine has been. I am sure there are worse things than Comcast, although the only thing that currently springs to mind is possible gonorrhea :-)

Be careful of the pricing insanity. Somehow my “19.95 high-speed internet” ends up costing me $62/month. This does include the most basic cable service (which is $16.95 of that), but if I drop basic cable, my service is “no longer bundled”, so my total bill for only internet will be $64! Yup, get less and pay more. A pricing structure only the sadistic voodoo accountants at Comcast could ever understand.

  9. Pirate King Luffy Says:

    I can’t wait… but I’ll be broke in October so……….. Bill… May I borrow your copy?

  10. MamaLiberty Says:

Let’s see… take all books off three bookcases. Dust, organize by category, author and toss one or two… er, maybe I’ll keep them downstairs just in case.

Hmmm, still no more room on the bookcases. I KNOW! I’ll buy another bookcase!!! Problem solved. :)

Now… where am I going to put the new bookcase? There’s got to be a way to do this…

  11. cctyker Says:

Hope you have my luck with Comcast. I’ve had it for 3+ years, and it has worked fine for me.

I’m new here, as you might have figured out. I learned of you, Claire, when you were published in Lew Rockwell’s blog.

    I enjoy your blog.

  12. Bill St. Clair Says:

PKL. Remind me then, and, when I’m done, I’ll be happy to loan it to you.

  13. Winston Says:

This is great news! I’m quite fond of the SWAT mag articles you write so the new book sounds right up my alley…

  14. J. Baumann Says:

    Claire,

Knowing you like flashlights, I figured you might like to hear about this:

    http://www.gizmag.com/rechargeable-led-lightglobe/16265/

This is a good idea for an emergency torch.

  15. Claire Says:

Oh, there you go J. Baumann … feeding my gadgetry jones. :-)

That’s exceptionally cool — as both a flashlight and a household light. Must have several of those. Must find out more precisely what they cost …

And though I haven’t had much time to respond to comments lately … thank you all for the good wishes on the new books. Gotta go work on the Paladin book right now, but will keep you posted when I know any more details about release dates & such.
