Thanks to some last-minute assistance — with “last-minute” actually being several weeks ago — and thanks to the work of many volunteers, Rats!, the anti-snitch book, is now live.
Find it at http://rats-nosnitch.com/. Four different formats for reading. One bundle of HTML files for mirroring on your own site. All free.
Copy and distribute at will. Spread it around far and wide. Post to your blogs about it. Tweet it. Announce it on your Facebook page, mirror the entire site … whatever. The more this gets into the hands of potential victims of snitchery, the better.

I apologize. I spent the last several weeks dithering over one question concerning the website and the big question about getting it on Amazon and what to do with proceeds from any Amazon sales.
I finally decided Amazon can wait a while and the website question was too petty to dither over. So I made a couple small changes … and here we go. May it reach a million people who need it.

Posted on all my favorite fora… downloaded the zip file, but Ubuntu is being cute about letting me unzip and save to a folder of my choosing. Unziped it… but no idea where it went. sigh
I’ll keep working on it. Want to post this at PoL…

Oh, MamaLiberty, I’ve done that, too! I know the Ark file-expander-thingie does allow you either to extract the zip files into an existing directory or create a new one on the fly. But it’s not intuitive. It’s tripped me up a couple of times.
Thanks for wanting to post at PoL. If you really get stuck, you can just link to the Rats! page or the four book files.
But yeah … the more mirrors out there the better.

Definitely crazy stuff! An “anarchist” who, as a first resort after a personal dispute, sneaks off to tell incriminating lies to cops? Definitely crazy. It appears Black has managed to get some of the most damning accounts scrubbed from the ‘Net. I can’t believe he’s managed to keep the story out of his Wikipedia entry. But … yeah, the ‘Net never forgets.

Just downloaded it to my Kindle and also grabbed a copy on “.pdf” to share as I can. I wonder how much sooner the USSR would have broken apart if they’d had even a tenth of this stuff.

Good book. I attended the Reid Class this past year. The interrogation techniques are based on people who do not know their rights. You go in for a friendly interview, and then you are toast. They tape you (both video and audio), but the recorder is hidden. They then have other persons watching the video to see what your mannerisms are. What are they watching for? How do you react during the control questions? When its a simple question, do you hold your hands on your laps? When its something where you are going to be deceptive, do you then hold your hand in a position to cover your mouth? the entire technique is geared towards making you feel comfortable, and then, they catch you in an inconsistency. The Reid technique works because the subject allows it to work. If its voluntary, then walk out. If its not voluntary, then you should be quiet or have your attorney.

Thank you, too, texas. (And sorry I didn’t see your comment and quickly retrieve it from the pending folder.) Your summation of the Reid Technique accords well with just waiting’s and puts it in nice, short terms I hope people heed.
Interesting that two readers (at least) have studied the method.
I’ve never been “Reided” and hope I never am. But I think it would help for somebody to tell himself, “This only works if I LET it work.”

I’ve just heard from one of my readers in Australia. He says the book’s Web site is blocked – he can’t access it from his normal account. However, he can do so through an anonymizer. Perhaps the Australian authorities think you’re a subversive?
(They may be right, of course!)

Peter — Oh, I’m so honored! And so should all the other contributors to the anti-snitch book be.
In the past I’ve had my books scrutinized by the FBI. And when someone tried to send one to Timothy McVeigh, the warden rejected it (heaven forbid I should be a bad influence on McVeigh!). But this is the first I’ve heard about a foreign government possibly blocking access.
But Australia??? I didn’t realize they were in the book-blocking business.
