- Pitbull vs kitten. Oooooh, you can only imagine the carnage!
- These people are so cheery and upbeat I want to smack ‘em. But what they’re doing is wonderful. Now there’s the power of creative risk taking! (Sad irony, though, that they felt a need to include a question in their FAQ about whether their children are getting a proper education. How could anybody assume that sitting in a classroom could be a better education than they’re getting in this adventure?)
- “I Was Out to See America.” Riding the rails in the Great Depression. (Via Old Printer who points out that the cops in those days may have been shakedown artists — but they most likely wouldn’t kick your ribs in or beat harmless people to death. In public. With cameras running.)
- Yes, when they do it, it’ll be forrrrr the chilllllldrrrrrrren. So we’re not all mere criminals now in the twisted minds of Our Glorious Leaders. We’re child pornographers. Or will be if this law passes.
- “Gems in the Rough at Quartzsite, Arizona.” Old friend Elias Alias of Oathkeepers gives his unique perspective on cops who rose up against their masters.
- Okay, I know this gag was already hoary when I used a version of it back in 101 Things to Do ‘Til the Revolution (that version said the best survival kit was a rifle and a directory of the nearest Mormon ward). But it’s still a classic, not to mention a good reminder. So (via J. and a “rat”):

And thanks, Claire, I needed that this morning. DH spent the weekend watching every minute of news coverage he could find on the congress/debt ceiling situation. He didn’t really care about the whole thing, just was totally absorbed in the “gamesmanship”. I found it to be like watching some new reality show designed to see who could out-stupid all the other contestants while wearing a suit and trying to look mature.

The Mormons that I know are well armed. Most are pretty helpful folk though. I don’t recall the LDS taking vows of pacifism like so many mainstream religions seem to hafe.

My pitbull/yello lab mix happened to raise my favorite cat. It’s not a very tough cat that unfortunately thinks he’s a dog. Gets him in no end of trouble, but is smart enough to run home to Momma when things get to dangerous.
Quartzsite is a small town in AZ, therefore Quartzsite is corrupt. Seldom does an anti-corruption official last long. The big difference here is the mayor is fighting the corruption and that the council is clueless as to keeping a low profile.

Anyone who thinks cats and dogs can’t get along(as well as other species)has never had them as pets. If they’re well treated and cared for,they have no reason not to. My grandparents had an old female cat that was protective of everything on their small farm-including a dog much larger than her.

Karen, thanks for the wonderful links. I loved those. The owl and cat playing were amazing, and the kid with the bull terrier was a hoot. (Also a hoot that several people pointed out the breed inconsistency while still managing not to notice that “he” is a “she”.)
Ugh. Having to read about the stupid debt theater was bad enough. Watching it? I can’t imagine. Well, yes, I can. And I imagine it was exactly as you described.
I also wondered who coached Gabrielle Giffords to show up at that exact moment. It was clearly just another piece of theater designed to distract the voters away from the disgraceful proceedings and draw some admiring Ahhhhs out of us.

The Riding The Rails stories were good too, altho I probably shouldn’t have read them…..that sounded anything but adventurous…..
And, I had the same thoughts about Giffords….or I should say, whomever orchestrated that……

Your Dilbert strip reminds me of a fellow “prepper” who complained that his friends and relatives all were planning to come over to his place in the event of a disaster. I suggested he tell those would be freeloaders to do him the favor of getting shot in someone elses’ driveway.

thanks for visiting our blog( http://www.WorkingTheWorld.com)! believe me, i do not doubt that my children’s education is best served with the world as our classroom. i just got soooooo many people (including most of our extended family) asking me about my children’s formal studies, i thought i would calm them down a bit. my kids are learning spanish, community service, how to entertain themselves, die hard serious family communication and dynamics, and more about themselves than i think i could ever give them in our daily routine life. come back and visit from time and time and give us your two cents.

Gabi! How wonderful to hear from you. What you guys are doing is SO thrilling (I actually blogged links to your site twice this week — and I guess I’d better say I’m sorry about that remark in the first blog entry about smacking you for being so upbeat).
I’ll definitely visit your site and follow your adventures. I hope others here will, also. I have no idea what your political views are, or whether you even have any, but what you’re doing is a wonderful example for everybody who seeks freedom.
As to how I found you … publicly I’ll keep that secret, but I’ll send you an email about it.
