Tuesday links

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014
  • So … some uninsured Californians get covered under Obamacare. Whoopee. Months later they’re desperately banging on the doors of free clinics for the uninsured because they can’t get doctors to see them. (How many of us kept shouting, “It’s not about ‘coverage.’ It’s about access to actual care!”)
  • Wanna see the impact of state sales taxes on business? Check out Amazon’s numbers. (Well, that may help explain why after a strong start to the year, my personal Amazon links are producing spit and bubble gum this month.)
  • Could low blood sugar be wrecking your marriage?
  • So this is what the ultimate mainstream ‘zine thinks of the Cliven Bundy standoff. Not a word about federal overkill. Not a word about needlessly slaughtered animals. Not a word about why the BLM operates paramilitary forces. Just that the fedgov had better crack down harder lest the peasants (We the Picts) get even more uppity. Yeah, thank you King George III for your advice.
  • “Through a Google Glass, Darkly.” A tech skeptic beta tests the infamous snoop device.

I suffer from hypoglycemia. When we were first married, my hubby couldn’t figure out the mood swing before and after a meal. :-) He gets it now and doesn’t take it personally.

  2. Betsey Says:

My friend is a call nurse which means she sits at a computer and gives advice. Lots of her callers are Illinois people on Obama care who claim they can’t get doctors. She gives out numbers from a list of doctors in their area and found that the calls were routed through Cambodia. What a mess!

Excerpt from the linked time piece on the Bundy Ranch

The Feds may have set a troubling precedent by allowing a Nevada rancher and his band of armed followers to win a standoff with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The rancher refused to pay more than $1 million in fines for letting his cows graze on government land

It could have been a catastrophe. For several days last week, hundreds of angry protesters faced off with federal workers on an arid ranch near Bunkerville, Nev. Militiamen squatted among the sagebrush and crouched on a highway overpass, cradling guns and issuing barely veiled threats at the government officials massed behind makeshift barricades. The specter of a violent standoff hung over the high desert.

One of the most awesomely blatant propaganda pieces from the msm I’ve ever read. There should be a goebbels prize or something.

  4. Paul Bonneau Says:

    From the article:
“More states have started to push to collect taxes on Internet purchases in an effort to treat online and offline retailers equally and, often, to make more revenue to cover budget shortfalls.”

Budget shortfalls (a euphemism for overspending) is the whole reason. Legislators don’t give a rat’s ass about equality. I bet none of them bothered to ask retailers in their state if the retailers want an internet tax.

Don’t expect much from Time Magazine. Actually I was surprised they mentioned the Reid connection at all. But yeah, they are definitely part of the Ministry of Propaganda. A good thing they are on the ropes.

  5. Jim B. Says:

Oh gee, the states are not getting the tax dough they were expecting from Amazon and they’re wondering why.

Must be why I got the high priced stuff from Amazon I’ve had my eye on for months and finally brought, mainly due to the expected sales tax that went into effect after I brought the stuff.

If I want books and a online vendor, not Amazon, offer free shipping above a certain amount and no sales taxes, guess who I’m going to use? Even if I already brought Amazon Prime. Pissed me off when the states profits and wastes the tax money I hard earned and pay.

Re: Could low blood sugar be wrecking your marriage?

Having been diagnosed as a diabetic some time ago to the authors of this study I say “No shit Sherlock.” :^)

  7. MamaLiberty Says:

Ah Amazon… the law of unintended consequences is a real bitch.

“Too high? Unfair?” Compared to what? Tax of any kind (as opposed to voluntary contributions or paying for what one wants) is theft. Therefore, complaining that the income tax (or any other) is merely “too high” or “not fair” is like complaining that a mugger who robs you each morning on the way to work takes ten dollars from your wallet at gunpoint, where before he only demanded one or two… and that it is not “fair” because he now has a larger caliber gun…

But, of course Amazon can’t fight the tax insanity alone, any more than Bundy can fight the BLM alone. Eventually, we’ll all have to join the fight for freedom, or learn to kiss the nice big government bums… er, I mean guns.

    Bundy Part Deux?

Texas AG Abbott to BLM: ‘Come and Take It’
“I am about ready,” General Abbott told Breitbart Texas, “to go to the Red River and raise a ‘Come and Take It’ flag to tell the feds to stay out of Texas.”

Another great Kipling poem. I haven’t read that one in a long time. Words for our time. Thanks for the link, Claire.
